Resurrection West,
Let’s Go Royals – clap, clap, clap, clap clap! What in incredible week of sporting events here in the Kansas City area! The Chiefs played as if Monday night was a championship game and the Royals ground it out moving forward toward that dream of the World series. The apostle Paul references athletics and competition throughout his writings to the Churches of Philippi, Corinth, and in his mentorship of Timothy. Paul writes about running the race so as to win the prize (Philippians 3:12-14), and to exercise spiritual discipline as we approach the race (1 Corinthians 10:1-13), and he coaches Timothy on perseverance of faith as we race toward the goal in Christ (2 Timothy 4:6-8). Paul writes into this symbolism and my hope is that we are each encouraged to look inwardly as we increase God’s presence and goals in our lives and decrease our own self growing in Christ!
Pastor Adam is back and continues The Call series this Sunday as we examine the apostle Paul’s journey toward that goal in Christ Jesus! Come to worship wearing your “Royal Blue” to encourage our team for Sunday night’s game. Here is a pic we captured this past Thursday morning in our all staff chapel to encourage our “boys in blue” for the big game!

Consider these many upcoming opportunities in ministry and mission.
Donate to Neighborhood Food Drive – Help “sack hunger” in our community this year. Pick up a reusable Sack Hunger KC bag, fill it with non-perishable food donations and return it to the mission bins in the entry way by Sunday, Oct. 12. Student Ministry Fall Retreats Metamorphosis is a weekend spiritual retreat for students at Youthfront Camp West in Edgerton, KS. Transform a Community with Christmas in October – Resurrection’s Christmas In October Team will send hundreds of volunteers into the Wendell-Phillips area of our city Saturday, Oct. 11, to help low-income homeowners rebuild their homes. Through CIO, Resurrection has become a major force in helping elderly, disabled and veteran homeowners remain in their homes. With your help, homes are made weather tight, exteriors are cleaned up and through our year-round efforts, wheelchair accessible ramps are built almost weekly. Sign up at cor.org/cio. All skill levels welcome to serve.
Finally, we are only 8 days away from the 2014 Fall Festival Festival at Resurrection West - Saturday, October 11, 5pm - Fireworks at 7:15pm! Come for dinner, stay for the fun! Join us for games, wagon rides, corn maze, phot booth inflatables, face painting and more! Be sure to wear your costume for "Trunk - or - Treat". There will be an opportunity to participate in an international mission project – help feed hungry children around the world. Invite your friends – we’ll have something for everyone.

Please consider volunteering to serve at the event as we reach out and invite our community to this Kingdom party! If you would like to "host" a Trunk or Treat from your vehicle, help with games or contribute cupcakes or other items to the event, stop by the Fall Fest table in the entry this Sunday. Contact Stephanie Makalous at smakalous@msn.com for more information or to sign up to serve!
Finally, this past Sunday I preached a message on vision and shared the most current plans of our campus expansion including master-site plans, and the next phase (phase 2) plan. You can view the message here at rezwest.org/about/campus- pastor. As I shared on Sunday, I believe vision begins with prayer! Please consider praying this prayer regularly as our building committee, campus advisory team, pastors and staff, architectural team, building contractors continue their work to develop a tool to serve the mission and vision God has directed us in.

Lord God, with humility, we look to You to provide the wisdom, guidance and resources we need to accomplish our task. We ask for a fresh empowering of Your Holy Spirit to give us discernment, creativity and clarity. Help us work as a team, carefully listening to one another, appreciating our differences and the variety of gifts we bring. Help us work efficiently and help us to be faithful to the mission and vision of your Church. As we move forward, deepen our faith. Increase our love for You, for one another, and for our community. We look to the future with hope and are filled with joy! Amen
Looking forward to worshipping with you on Sunday - Go Royals,
