Kansas City, Missouri, United States - The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Down town "Weekly eNote from Pastor Scott Chrostek" Friday, 24 October 2014
Greetings (from the Holy Land) RezDowntowners!
I hope this message finds you doing well this Friday morning.  I cannot believe it, but after about 14 hours of straight flying, we have finally made it to the Holy Land!  Tonight the group settled down in Bethlehem, Palestine to prepare for our ten-day tour that will start out at the sight where Christ was born.  Today, we’ll be seeing the Shepherd’s Field while singing ‘Hark the Herald Angels Sing.’  We’ll visit the Herodium, and think about the kind of power Jesus came to thwart, and then of course we spend a lot of time at the Church of the Nativity, with candlelight, singing together Silent Night and Joy to the World. It will be a whirlwind tour to be sure.  Some of our early highlights were running into Pastor Adam at the airport in KC before getting on board and of course we were able to hear the final Royals score while in mid-flight over the Atlantic.  I’ll be sure to keep things posted on Facebook so that you can follow along with our team.  In the meantime, I hope you’ll invite friends and join us in worship this weekend as we conclude our sermon series in downtown Kansas City on the Apostle Paul, his call, life and mission.  It will be a great conclusion that points us the hope we have, even when facing death!
Finally, last weekend concluded as I had the privilege of welcoming several new members to the life of our church at Coffee With the Pastors.  It was a great day to celebrate so much new life in our church.  We will recognize our newest members in worship this weekend.  I would love for you to come and welcome them into the life of our community.  Also, If you consider Resurrection Downtown to be your church home, I would love for you to consider taking steps toward becoming a member or perhaps even connecting with me for coffee sometime.  It would be great to share with you our vision that is now almost five years in the making.   To set up a time for coffee or to connect, please email Jackie.Thomas@cor.org. I am so proud to be connected with this community.  Each day while I'm in the Holy Land, I'll be spending time in prayer for you.  I continue to thank God for each of you and for calling us to do the things that He does here in this city.
Thank you for the many ways in which you answer the call.
In the meantime, here are several ways to connect to the life of this church:

Community LINC has many children who are not easily able to participate in Halloween fun. So let’s bring Halloween to them by using the trunks of vehicles for trick-or-treating! Decorate your vehicle, feel free to dress up and bring some candy to share with the kids at Community LINC! You will not want to miss out on bringing the fun of Halloween to these kids!
SWAT (Singles with a Twist) Chief’s Watch Party at Duke’s!  SWAT is for folks who are single and are 35 on up. We will be gathering at Duke’s (15th & Grand St.) on Sunday, Oct. 26.  Just to shake it up, attend the 10:15am service at the 1508 Grand location, then head across the street after for fun, fellowship & football! For more information, contact Gina Bowman atginab@kc.rr.com.
3rd Annual Fall Family Fun Fest is Coming!  Think you make the best chili ever? Have a favorite cornbread recipe that beats all others? Here's your chance to prove it at the RezDowntown Fall Family Fun Fest on Saturday, Nov. 1, 11 am – 1 pm. Bring your children both young and old, friends and strangers to Johnson Farms at 17701 State Line Rd. D for an awesome day of fun including a pumpkin launcher, corn maze, sand bus and The Blob (you'll have to come to find out what that is)!  Contact Kris.drummond@cor.org to enter the contests or for more information about the event. The Bulletin Stuffing Team won last year, it’s your turn to win the Golden Chili Pot!!
I am so blessed to be a part of this community and I am so proud to serve Christ with you in this city.  I hope you'll invite friends and join us as we continue building Christian community in the center of this city this weekend.  Even though I won't be there, I will pray that you have a great and God-filled Friday and I'll look forward to seeing you live and in person next weekend!
Grace and Peace,
Scott
