Trinity United Methodist Church of Gainesville, Florida, United States for Wednesday, 31 December 2014 "Via Media - A Middle Way"
"Would to God that all the party names and unscriptural phrases and forms which have divided the Christian world were forgot; and that we might all agree to sit down together as humble, loving disciples, at the feet of our common Master, to hear his word, to imbibe his Spirit, and to transcribe his life in our own!"  (Wesley's Explanatory Notes on the New Testament)
John and Charles Wesley's parents on one side were aligned more with the "dissenters" and Puritans, and on the other to the Anglican Church.  John could see truth on both sides of the theological divide and had the ability to value and listen to people on opposite sides and to chart a middle way, embracing the best of both sides.
That continues to be a strength of Methodism today.
Remember, this Sunday we are back to our regular worship schedule of 3 services, and the very special John Wesley Covenant Service; it will get your new year off in the best possible way.
