The key word as we enter the 2015 Lenten season is "Up." During this Lenten season, we are called to take our fundraising for Imagine No Malaria to the next level. Our charge as we enter the Lenten season is to:
1) Give up excess and indifference -- Let us not turn a deaf ear to the call from the children and families on the African continent to help save lives from malaria. Encourage family, friends, and colleagues to generously give a sacred gift to INM.
2) Take up the charge and challenge -- We must tell even more people about the wonderful efforts of the United Methodist Church to answer God's call to eliminate malaria on the African continent. The California-Pacific Conference has a God-sized goal of raising $3 million to help save lives from malaria. We've raised almost $1 million already! In this last year of the initiative, let's try to meet and even surpass our final $2 million goal. Together, we can do it!
3) Lift up the hurting and the healed -- The INM initiative is about more than just sending money to wipe out malaria. As servants of God, we are called upon to keep the families of the 450,000 children who die each year in our hearts and minds. We must also pray for the continued healing and access to vital medical care from malaria for African families and their children.
4) Look up to overcome -- Let us never forget that God is working through us to save the lives of children and their families from the horrible disease of malaria. Let us remain inspired and encouraged that our efforts as God's humble servants can and will make a difference. |
