The Church of the Resurrection United Methodist of Kansas City, Missouri, United States Weekly Enote from Pastor Scott Chrostek for Friday, 9 January 2014

Friday, January 9, 2015,
Greetings RezDowntowners,
I hope this message finds you doing well on another chilly Friday morning.  I can’t believe we’re already two weeks into 2015.  It has been a cold start to be sure, but I’m excited for where God will take us.  This weekend we’ll be continuing our sermon series on “Half-Truths” by focusing our time and attention on the saying, “God Helps Those Who Help Themselves.”  It will be a great weekend of worship, please make plans to invite friends and join us.  It was so great to see so many people in worship last weekend in spite of the inclement weather, after looking at the weather forecast for the weekend it looks like the weather will be beautiful and warmer, a fitting forecast for building community and changing lives!  I’m looking forward to seeing you in worship!
In the meantime, we have a lot of opportunities coming up for you to get plugged into studies and community life, including a chance to listen and meet former Kansas City Royals player, Willie Mays Aikens on Wednesday, so please take a look below and find an opportunity to grow closer to God this new year!
RezDowntown at the Movies: Selma.  As a part of our observance of Martin Luther King Day, Resurrection Downtown will be going as a group to watch the movie Selma around 7 pm on Monday, Jan. 19 (MLK Day) at the Cinemark Palace on the Plaza (526 Nichols Road, KC, MO). Selma tells the story about the Alabama city that became the battleground in the fight for suffrage in 1965. Despite violent opposition, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his followers pressed forward on an epic march from Selma to Montgomery, and their efforts culminated in President Lyndon Johnson signing the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Resurrection Downtown will be pre-ordering a block of tickets. To pre-order your tickets, sign-up at the Connection Point on Sunday. Tickets will be $6.75/person. For more information, contact Pastor Todd at todd.maberry@cor.org. You can pay at Connection Point this weekend or next weekend with exact cash or check payable to Resurrection.
