Friends, yes, I'm pushing the Trinity Men's Retreat really hard - because I believe in it; that it's important for guys to get together to share, to know they're not alone in their challenges and victories, so I hope, if you're a guy, you'll be there - Saturday morning, January 31 (we'll be done in plenty of time for you to get to the UF Basketball game, and you'll have a hamburger to take with you!). Here's the line up for the morning:
8:00 - 8:30 Breakfast (Introductions and Getting Started, during Breakfast) 8:30 - 8:55 First Speaker - Newell Fox, "Ups and Downs of 'Doing it All'" 9:00 - 9:25 Table Talk 9:30 - 9:55 Second Speaker - Chip Williams, "Mistakes and Triumphs Along the Way" 10:00 - 10:15 Break 10:15 - 10:40 Third Speaker - Randy Sherwood, "Building on the Positives." 10:40 - 11:00 Table Talk 11:00 - 11:25 Fourth Speakers - Darin and Dan Johnson, "Creating & Sustaining a Legacy" 11:25 - 11: 50 Table Talk 11:50 - 12:00 Wrap Up 12:15 - Lunch
The only cost is a donation for the meals, but we need you to register so the chefs will know how many to plan on. Right now over 52 guys have signed on; let's make it 100!
Also, if you're in town on Wed, Jan. 28, you'll want to hear Rick Kilby (Pat and Dick's son who grew up here in Trinity) and Margaret Tolbert's presentation "The Myth & Magic of Florida Springs" at 6:00 in Ed. Bldg, 232. Prepare to be dazzled.
This coming Sunday, I'll be continuing our sermon series on John and Charles Wesley, focusing on perhaps the key area that most characterizes Methodists, our beliefs and our practices. I hope you can be in worship; and if you missed Rev. Aaron's sermon which gave a brief and informative overview of Wesley's life, be sure to watch it online.
Blessings, Dan |

A Word from Rev. Esther
So many great things are happening in our midst -- I hope you take advantage of some of these great opportunities. Some highlights would be the Mindfulness Meditation course that starts tonight -- I've heard great things about this and look forward to participating soon. I will miss it this evening because I am soon to be on my way to Tampa as, along with some folks from our congregation and First UMC, I'm headed to Cuba for a week. Pray for our travels and our time there. Tomorrow night you will not want to miss Kimberly Webster (Sims) if you stop by the 6:35 service in the Chapel. I heard Kimberly speak at the Order of Saint Luke a couple months ago and thought she would do a great job sharing tomorrow evening. Another opportunity tomorrow is the Mission Study on Disabilities which continues from last week. I'm so thankful that we are a congregation who seeks to become informed so that we may better serve. Please make an effort to check this study out. I won't see you this week, but I'll be praying for all of these activities and for you.
A Word from Rev. Aaron
Please pray for Rev. Aaron and his family while they are away for rest and renewal in the mountains this week. |

Faith Mission
Faith Mission, at 3701 NE 15th Street, is a collaboration of Trinity, Mt. Pleasant UMC, and the surrounding neighborhood. Last week the Tuesday Word included the purpose of the Faith Mission Covenant. So what are the objectives of this new covenant?
- Grow in relationship and commitment to Christ and one another as we come together with unity of purpose to serve in ministry for the good of all.
- Build lasting relationships with neighborhood leaders and residents.
- Identify the assets, strengths, and needs of the neighborhood through community collaboration.
- Offer mission and outreach programs that meet the needs of the neighborhood.
- Communicate with and educate each individual within our churches regarding the benefits to be obtained from this ministry, and demonstrate those benefits over the period of the covenant.
What stands out is how strongly relational these objectives are - person-to-person, church-to-church, church-to-neighborhood, Christ-to-all. Sounds almost scriptural, doesn't it?
What's happening at Faith Mission this week?
- Renovations are continuing, including roofing and painting.
- We hope to have all neighborhood positions filled on the Leadership Team. A big step.
- The Kids Count after school program for K-3rd graders is in operation Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2:45 - 5:45pm, and Fridays, 1:30 - 4:30pm. Volunteers are welcome!
- A Faith Mission volunteer work day will be held Saturday, January 24 from 9am to 1pm. There will be a variety of tasks (several painting jobs, kitchen cleaning and organizing, removal of old baseboards and carpet, assembling picnic tables, and some yard work) with members of Trinity and Mt. Pleasant plus folks from the neighborhood helping out. If you can come and work feel free to bring things like tools and paint supplies but we plan to have on hand what will be needed to get each job done. It's not required to participate but you can sign up to volunteer at "Faith Mission Work Day Sign Up."

The story of the Creation of the world only covers two chapters of a 50-chapter book. They are only the beginning of a rich and formative history of our relationship with God. Listen afresh to the witness of this opening book of the Hebrew Bible and discover a clearer understanding of God's purpose in creating and forming a people. The cost of the participant's book is $8. Books are available at the Trinity Bookstore or on the first day of class.
- Mindfulness Meditation: an 8 week course on Tuesdays, January 20 - March 10, 6:30 - 8pm, E225. There is a suggested $10 donation per class.
- The Marriage Course: Come enjoy a "Valentine's Date Night" as we launch The Marriage Course. The course is for any couple, together from 1 to 61 years and strong or struggling. A strong, loving, and lifelong relationship doesn't happen by chance. Come learn now to make your marriage even better. This is FUN & you don't have to be married to be a Volunteer, but you do have to be encouraging to those who are. Orientation planned for Jan. 25 3-5:30 PM. Contact Sharon & Earl McDow, (371-4092).
