We love because God first loved us (I John 4:19).
Jan and I went to see the movie "Selma" this past Friday; such a powerful movie.  It's too bad that marches, sit ins, peaceful protests, and all that pain had to happen; if only our "Christian" nation had lived into its first principle
 of "loving others because God first loved us," then "Selma" would not have been necessary.  
Why is it so hard to "love because God first loved us"?  Maybe it's because there never really was a real sense of being loved by God, or maybe God's love gets covered over by fear and stereotype. 
Our first and last reality, as followers of Jesus is this:  We love because God first loved us.  Everything else is secondary.
