Trinity United Methodist Church of Gainesville, Florida, United States for Tuesday, 20 January 2015 "Grace Upon Grace"
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God - not the result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are what God has made us, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand to be our way of life (Ephesians 2:8 - 10).
The Greek word for grace is "charis" and it appears 148 times in the NT. As the Apostle Paul uses it, Charis/Grace is "an act of kindness, an expression of selfless love that is completely undeserved and is given without any expectation of repayment."
It became the central message of Christianity, and hence became the basis for its worldwide appeal, for our connection/relationship with God was suddenly not based on status, position, merit, moral achievement, success, caste, being male, being a free person, ethnicity. It was based solely and completely on Grace! And that, my friend, is awesome, Good News!
