| Child’s Painting Nets $500 in INM Fundraiser |
Three-year-old Miriam Brown is a small person making a big difference. She's fundraising for Imagine No Malaria by auctioning off an original oil painting. Bidding started at $75, and when the auction ended on Christmas Day, the painting sold for $500!

 Three-year-old Miriam Brown is a small person making a big difference. She’s fundraising forImagine No Malaria by auctioning off an original oil painting. Last week, bidding was at $75. This week, an anonymous Alaska cleric has turned things up a notch with a $500 bid! Miriam’s success has caught the attention of the local news, along with United Methodists far and wide. The auction ends on Christmas Day.
Miriam’s father, Rev. Tony Brown, serves Trinity UMC in Port Townsend. He says that buying art supplies was Miriam’s response to a lesson on Matthew 25:14-30. In this parable, a man entrusts his wealth (in the form of “talents”) to his employees when he goes on a long journey, and some of the employees earn a better return on that money than others. “We gave everyone in the church $10 a few Sundays ago,” says Rev. Brown, “and told them to find ways to multiply it following the story of the talents.”
This fundraising challenge was called “Invest it for God.” Trinity UMC is in the midst of a building project, and it’s also committed to the work of Imagine No Malaria. Many of its members have a special interest in the well-being of children in South Africa. Last August, the church sent eleven people on a two-week mission trip to Swaziland, South Africa to help repair an orphanage. Malaria is a constant threat to South Africa’s most vulnerable citizens, so Imagine No Malaria is close to this congregation’s heart.
 Miriam painted for three weeks straight, showing a remarkable attention span for her age. Her abstract work features a variety of textures in bold jewel tones. “Even at age three, she has great sensitivity to color and composition,” says an anonymous art critic. “It’s unusual to see a cohesive color scheme from such a young artist, but she’s done a great job of choosing analogous colors and repeating them throughout the canvas to tie it all together. She’s also created a sense of perspective by using larger bodies of color in the lower half of the canvas.” The only help that Miriam received was from her dad, who helped her get the paint out whenever the inspiration hit. With her dedication and attention to detail, she has a bright future in any artistic endeavor.
Miriam and her family are auctioning this painting off for a tax-deductible donation, 50% of which will go to Imagine No Malaria and 50% to the church’s building project. | Camper Helps Church Imagine No Malaria |
Who says what happens at camp stays at camp? Last summer, at the Florida Annual Conference's LECFamily Grandparents and Me campers learned about the disease of malaria around the world and how they can help. One of the long-time campers, Grace, went home fired up and ready to change the world - and she did! Grace Plonsky shared an Imagine No Malaria message at her church and raised $120 from the congregation and a $250 pledge from the church.

Hi Melissa,
The Imagine No Malaria project that we did at Grandparent and Me Camp I took a bit farther.
I asked my Pastor at church if I could talk about Imagine No Malaria, and he said yes!
My mom asked for bracelets, a DVD, and pledge cards from Imagine No Malaria.
My pastor gave me a whole table I could set up my stuff, and before I knew it, I've raised 120 dollars all from my church!
It feels really great to do something good. Tomorrow I'm talking about it again, with a PowerPoint to share, plus a video (my pastor kept forgetting to download it). Plus, my church pledged $250.

| Korean Church Plant Reaches Out ... to Students' Stomachs |
| A new Korean United Methodist church start in Madison, Wis., recently held its first missional event during the University of Wisconsin-Madison's final exam period to raise money for Imagine No Malaria. For three days, church members made and sold kimbap, a style of Korean sushi, to feed students with Korean food and also educate them about Imagine No Malaria - and in the end, raised $370 for this life-saving initiative. | Korean Church Plant Reaches Out | WISCONSIN ANNUAL CONFERENCE Myunghoon Han has been working to plant a new Korean United Methodist Church in Madison since July, and so far, has seen great success. Growing worship and bible study attendance, two regular ministries for students and families, and a recent fundraiser that earned $370 for Imagine No Malaria show that this church is off to a strong start.

| Beards for Bed Nets |
Things are getting a bit "hairy" at Mandarin United Methodist Church in Jacksonville, Fla. The congregation has declared this month to be "No Shave January" in order to raise money for Imagine No Malaria, and created the Twitter hashtag #noshavejanuaryinm to track the church's progress. |
