"Be Joyful!"
Bible Reading: Habakkuk 3:17-19a
Habakkuk 3:17 For even if the fig tree doesn’t blossom,
and no fruit is on the vines,
even if the olive tree fails to produce,
and the fields yield no food at all,
even if the sheep vanish from the sheep pen,
and there are no cows in the stalls;
18 still, I will rejoice in Adonai,
I will take joy in the God of my salvation.
19 Elohim Adonai is my strength!
He makes me swift and sure-footed as a deer
and enables me to stride over my high places.
For the leader. With my stringed instruments.
My husband has had multiple sclerosis for 25 years. He walks with a walker and has difficulty seeing and remembering things. He is only 54 years old. I have told my friends that I feel like I am watching my husband slowly die.
It is easy for me to become sad and discouraged as I take care of my husband. But I am comforted to read verses like our Bible Reading today. Habakkuk described some bad situations. But then he said (verse 18), "I will still be glad in the Lord and rejoice in God my savior." Habakkuk trusted God to be his strength and help him overcome his problems.
Every day we make choices. When bad things happen to us, we can choose to be discouraged and complain. Or we can choose to be thankful and joyful that God loves us and has given us salvation through Jesus.
What kind of problems will you face today? Do not become sad and discouraged. Choose to remember God's promises and be joyful![MAT]
"The Lord God gives me my strength." Habakkuk 3:19a
PRAYER: Lord, You are my strength and my comfort. Thank You! In Jesus' name. Amen.
