issue coverThe Upper Room Daily Devotional from Nashville, Tennessee, United States "COUNTING ON GOD" for Tuesday, 10 May 2016 with Scripture: Psalm 52:8 (6) The righteous will see and be awestruck;
they will jeer at him, saying,
9 (7) “This fellow would not make God his refuge,
but trusted in his own great wealth,

relying on his evil plots.”

The LORD is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.[Psalm 100:5 (NRSV)]
I shuffled to the front door to get the newspaper, which was delivered to my home every morning at 5:30. I snatched the Tribune off the step and returned to the kitchen, where I remarked, “You can always count on the papergirl.”
My wife responded, “That is the best thing you can say about anyone.”
We can especially count on God to be with us and to be willing to listen and to consider our prayers. We do not have to sit in silent wonder and worry about the reaction we will receive as we speak our thoughts and cares to God. When we need help, God is always available.
From God, we learn how to be peaceful listeners by taking the time to listen more and to talk less. God is accessible from anywhere in the world. God gives us the strength to focus on meaningful conversations. God is the best example of a good listener, available and approachable, the One whom all of us can count on.
