Proverbs (7)" Bible Reading: Proverbs 13:24 for Tuesday, 8 November 2016
Proverbs 13:24 He who fails to use a stick hates his son,
but he who loves him is careful to discipline him.
-------
Our Bible Reading today is just one verse. But it is a very important verse. "If you don't correct your children, you don't love them. If you love them, you will be quick to discipline them." God wants us to discipline our children. That is how we teach them what is right and what is wrong.
This verse was written by Solomon at a time when shepherds took care of flocks of sheep. A shepherd would use a rod or a staff to help keep the sheep on the right path. With a rod he could tap the sheep on the side to move them from one place to another or keep them from going into a dangerous place. With his staff, the shepherd could rescue a sheep when he fell down or was hurt.
Maybe you are a parent, a grandparent, a youth worker in your church or just a neighbor to children. You can teach children about God and help them grow up loving and serving God. Ask God to help you as you share about Him with the children in your life.[BR]
"Children are a gift from the Lord, a reward from a mother's womb."[Psalm 127:3]
PRAYER: Father, bless me with wisdom as I teach children about You. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Proverbs (6)" Bible Reading: Proverbs 11:12-13 for Monday, 7 November 2016
Proverbs 11:12 He who belittles another lacks good sense,
whereas a person of discernment stays silent.
13 A gossip goes around revealing secrets,
but a trustworthy person keeps a confidence.
-------

I have several friends that I have known for a long time. These people have been my friends for many years. But sometimes these friends make me upset. When that happens I feel like I want to say something hurtful to them.
Our Bible Reading today teaches us what to do in situations like that. Verse 12 says, "Stupid people say bad things about their neighbors. Wise people know to be quiet." Often it is best for us to keep quiet and show love and compassion to our friends.
Verse 13 also gives us some good advice about friends. "People who tell secrets about others cannot be trusted. Those who can be trusted keep quiet." When a friend shares a secret with us, we should be trustworthy and not tell the secret to other people.
Thank God for your good friends. Treat them with love and respect.[BR]
"You cannot trust someone who would talk about things told in private.
So don't be friends with someone who talks too much."[Proverbs 20:19]

PRAYER: God, thank You for my good friends. I want to always love and respect them. In Jesus' name. Amen.
