Weekly eNote from Pastor Jason Gant for Friday, 27 January 2017 from The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection West in Olathe, Kansas, United States

Resurrection West,
Tonight will be a fun and inspirational time at our RezWest Celebration and Vision Gathering (childcare available for 4 years and under). We will begin with a kid-friendly meal catered by HyVee starting at 6:15pm, followed by Pastor Chris and myself serving as judges for the dessert contest (8 participants so far). After the contest we will invite our elementary-age kids to head out for a KiDSCOR program while we hear live testimonies including; Sami - one of our teens on how the rezlife mission trip was a transforming experience in her life, Rich - sharing how the vision of Upward Sports ministry has far exceeded what we hoped, Jeremy - a small group participant who has seen God at work through his weekly group, Misty - one of our faith work coordinators sharing about community impact, and the Muller family on how Ben receiving his 3rd grade Bible has changed their family’s faith life! We will then hear from Pastor Adam via video, followed by a visioning time for 2017! We’ll conclude the night at 8pm. We have over 120 registered already and you can still register (and sign-up to compete in the dessert contest) by going to cor.org/west/signup
On Sunday Pastor Adam will be preaching on facings the fears of failure and rejection. He will be offering insight once again from the psychological field as well as Scripture in facing these fears. We will also share in the baptisms of nine individuals across our services, including a family of five together! So cool! Invite a friend to be a part of worship at 8am, 9:30am, 11am, or 5pm.
Plus on Sunday afternoon from 3pm-5pm we hope to welcome many of you at Coffee with the Pastors. Pastor Chris and I will lead you through the history of Resurrection, our tradition of united Methodism, expectations of membership, and our own personal faith stories as we invite you to explore making us your church home. Close to the end of our time we will take a break, enjoy some treats, and then if you are ready to join our church, stay for a short joining ceremony. Childcare is available and all are welcome. Register at cor.org/west/coffee or just show up. We always plan for walk-ins.
On Wednesday night this week I kicked off a pre-marital group with five couples. We use a curriculum called Prepare/Enrich which invites couples to work through subjects like; communication, conflict resolution, intimacy, personality traits, and more. The goal of the pre-marital work is to grow to have a faithful and fulfilling marriage. Part of what we discuss in the course are the Five Love Languages, as coined by Dr. Gary Chapman. We have a class coming up on the Five Love Languages open to all people and I want to encourage you to consider being a part of it. You don’t have to be in a relationship, or married for that matter to grow in understanding how we hope to receive love and give love in our lives. Check out more about the course at cor.org/west/signup
This Sunday we will be encouraging everyone to participate in the SouperBowl Food Drive for local area food pantries. Look for the list of what is acceptable to donate in the bulletin on Sunday. Please also mark your calendars - Sunday, February 5th, we will be changing our 5pm worship time to 4pm due to the Super Bowl that night.
On Saturday, February 11th, 9am-11:30am we will host our next FaithWork, which is a Saturday morning where any and all can show up to serve others in our community. All ages are welcome. Meet at Resurrection West for prayer, breakfast snacks and instructions. Then, participate in a variety of serving opportunities including preparing used LEGOs for children in need via The Giving Brick, making special tote bags for those in need and creating Valentines for nursing home residents and first responders. Adults, students and children of all ages are welcome. No sign-up required—just come and serve. For more information, contact Chris.Holliday@cor.org.
Finally, on Sunday I’ll be sharing (with his parent’s permission, of course) what may be the cutest letter I’ve ever received. It’s a letter of confession from a five-year old boy in our congregation. For now, let’s just say you should never fake sick in order to miss worship on a Sunday??!!
Looking forward to celebrating what God is doing here at tonight’s gathering and worshiping together on Sunday,
Pastor Jason
