Reflecting God – Embrace Holy Living - WordAction - The Foundry Publishing House of Kansas City, Missouri, United States - The Global Church of the Nazarene for Sunday, 5 November 2017 "Living in the Light" by Rudy Morgan - 1 John 3:1-10
1 John 3:1 The Word, which gives life!
    He existed from the beginning.
We have heard him,
    we have seen him with our eyes,
we have contemplated him,
    we have touched him with our hands!
2 The life appeared,
    and we have seen it.
We are testifying to it
    and announcing it to you —
eternal life!
He was with the Father,
    and he appeared to us.
3 What we have seen and heard,
    we are proclaiming to you;
so that you too
    may have fellowship with us.
Our fellowship is with the Father
    and with his Son, Yeshua the Messiah.
4 We are writing these things
        so that our joy may be complete.
5 And this is the message which we have heard from him and proclaim to you: God is light, and there is no darkness in him — none!
6 If we claim to have fellowship with him while we are walking in the darkness, we are lying and not living out the truth. 7 But if we are walking in the light, as he is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of his Son Yeshua purifies us from all sin.
8 If we claim not to have sin, we are deceiving ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we acknowledge our sins, then, since he is trustworthy and just, he will forgive them and purify us from all wrongdoing.
10 If we claim we have not been sinning, we are making him out to be a liar, and his Word is not in us.

An overview of the First Letter John can be summed up with 3 words beginning with the letter “L:” God is “Light, Life and Love.” Jesus Christ is God’s light to the world: He offers eternal life to all, and Jesus enables God’s disciples to love other people in growing and practical ways like our Savior. Praise the Lord!
There are two sides to the Spirit-filled life: the abundant salvation offered in the scriptures. First, the Holy Spirit offers a believer in Jesus personal assurance for sins forgiven, as they exhibit faith in the One who died on the Cross and rose again from the dead. Amazingly, after initial salvation, when one surrenders their will and all to the Lordship of Christ, there is the work of heart cleansing, as exemplified in Acts 15:9, “He made no distinction between us and them, for He [the Holy Spirit] purified their hearts by faith.”
Further, the Holy Spirit offers, according to 1 John 1:7, continuous cleansing to all Spirit-filled believers who obediently live in God’s Light. Each disciple can take these promises to "God's eternal bank" and cash in for abundant living in this life and eternal life soon to come.---
Hymn for Today:
"Whiter Than Snow" by James Nicholson
1. Lord Jesus, I long to be perfectly whole,
I want Thee forever to live in my soul;
Break down every idol, cast out every foe;
Now wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Refrain: Whiter than snow; yes, whiter than snow;
  Now wash me and I shall be whiter than snow.
2. Lord Jesus, let nothing unholy remain,
Apply Thine own blood and extract every stain;
To get this blest cleansing I all things forego;
Now wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Refrain: Whiter than snow; yes, whiter than snow;
  Now wash me and I shall be whiter than snow.
3. Lord Jesus, look down from Thy throne in the skies,
And help me to make a complete sacrifice;
I give up myself and whatever I know;
Now wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Refrain: Whiter than snow; yes, whiter than snow;
  Now wash me and I shall be whiter than snow.
4. Lord Jesus, for this I most humbly entreat;
I wait, blessed Lord, at Thy crucified feet;
By faith, for my cleansing I see Thy blood flow;
Now wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Refrain: Whiter than snow; yes, whiter than snow;
  Now wash me and I shall be whiter than snow.
5. Lord Jesus, Thou seest I patiently wait;
Come now, and within me a new heart create;
To those who have sought Thee Thou never saidst, No;
Now wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Refrain: Whiter than snow; yes, whiter than snow;
  Now wash me and I shall be whiter than snow.

Thought for Today:
Come close to God, and he will come close to you. Clean your hands, sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded people!(James 4:8)
