"IN Memoriam - Rev. Cato Sims" for Friday, 29 June 2018 from The Great Plains Conference of The United Methodist Church in Nashville, Tennessee, United States
Rev. Cato Sims, Sr., 89, a clergy member of the Great Plains United Methodist Conference born on May 26, 1929 in Holmes County, MS, died Tuesday, June 26, 2018.
On June 25, 1951 he married his hometown sweetheart, Versa Travis. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Columbia College and a master’s degree from St. Paul School of Theology. Rev. Sims was a man of faith, ordained Elder in the A.M.E. church in 1969 and later in the United Methodist Church. Cato served in Missouri, Mexico-St. Luke’s, St. James Parish, in Nebraska, South Omaha Parish, Pearl Memorial-Asbury-Wesley, Walthill-Rosalie, Dawson-Howe, Polk-Bradshaw, Kenesaw-Holstein, Falls City Parish, Chester-Hubbell, Ceresco-Valparaiso, retired in 1997.
He will be remembered by his children Bob (Charlene) Sims, Cato (Patty) Sims, Jr. and Denise Walker, Naomi Cole, JoAnn Sims and Rosie Sims.
A visitation will be held from 9-10 a.m. on Friday, July 6, 2018 at Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave, Independence, MO, 64052. A service will follow at 10 a.m. He will be laid to rest at Oak Ridge Memory Gardens.
