Greetings RezDowntowners,
It is great to write you on a beautiful morning in Kansas City. I hope this message finds you doing well. This week has been a great one in the life of the church as we have several classes well underway, including Making Sense of the Bible, our Young Adult Music Devotional featuring Glory Revival songwriters, and of course our improv class. I have to tell you that it is awesome to see so many people connecting throughout the week through our community groups (not to mention all of our ongoing small groups). Additionally, it was such a privilege to be able to host such a big gathering at Coffee With the Pastors last Sunday. I’m excited to welcome so many new members to the life of the church this weekend in worship!
On Saturday and Sunday, we’ll be concluding our sermon series on Why? Making Sense of God’s Will, and we’ll have a special giveaway for everyone in attendance. This weekend only you will be able to download a free electronic copy of Pastor Adam Hamilton’s book Why? Making Sense of God’s Will. We’ll give you instructions on how to do this in worship, and for those of you who would like to share this book with friends will have the opportunity to purchase copies of the book this weekend only at Connection Point for a special cost of $5 per book (cash, check or credit card). Our hope is that this would be a great way to connect with friends and invite them to join us on a journey of knowing, loving and serving God.
In the meantime, here are several ways to connect with our community over the next few weeks:

Young Adult Music Devotional Class – Have you ever wondered what the stories and inspirations are behind a worship song? Do you feel like you need time to take a deep breath and slow down during the middle of a busy week? If so and you’re a young adult (ages 20-ish to 35-ish), join us on Wednesdays from 7-8:30pm at 1522 McGee for the next 4 weeks, you can come one week or every week! In each class we will dig deeper into two worship songs and take quiet time for reflection on each. We will also be joined by a Glory Revival songwriter who will give us insight into the music that is written and sung each weekend within our own community. For questions, contact Megan O’Neill at mego614@gmail.com.
Women’s Breakfast Series – Saturday, May 9th at 9 am at 1522 McGee to hear Ginger Vaughn, a board certified family nurse practitioner who specializes in functional medicine. Learn how lifestyle choices affect your body, and how we all have the ability to function at our best when we make good lifestyle choices. Hear her personal story that includes experience with a special needs child, the loss of a cherished loved one and the transition from traditional thinking about health to a new paradigm that centers around whole food nutrition. Bring a breakfast item to share – or come anyway even if you don’t have time to bake or shop. Visit rezdowntown.org/womensbreakfast or contact Jan Burchett at jburchett@kc.rr.com.
Wendell Phillips Service Opportunities begin this weekend! Wendell Phillips is a Kansas City elementary school located less than two miles from RezDowntown. We are committed long-term to serving them in every way that we can. For more information, visit www.rezdowntown.org/serveinschool. For questions or to sign up, email Jory Mick at jorylmick@gmail.com. Here are some ways you can serve with Wendell Phillips:
Book Fair Volunteers – Volunteer to set up for the school’s spring book fair on Wednesday, May 6, at 1 pm; we need 3-4 volunteers. You can also volunteer to help students during the book fair on Thursday, May 7, from 8:45 am – 2 pm; we need 5 volunteers for two different shifts.
Teacher Appreciation Lunch - Help us celebrate the teachers and staff and all the work they did for the 2014-2015 school year. Volunteer to bring fixings for a taco bar for a teacher appreciation lunch on Friday, May 8. You can also volunteer to serve at the lunch starting at 11 am.
Wendell Phillips Field Day – Join the students for a fun-filled day. Volunteer to play games with the students on Friday, May 15. Volunteers can sign up for two different shifts 9 am – noon or 1-4 pm.
School Supply Drive – The school needs a few more supplies to finish out the school year: tissues, Clorox wipes and dry erase markers. Bring your items to the Connection Point by Sunday, May 24.
Help us serve Holy Communion in Worship. An easy, but great way to do so is by volunteering as a communion server. We serve communion every weekend in worship and it takes a dedicated team of volunteers for this to happen. We’d love to have your help, even just once a month, and you can choose which service you’d like to serve. To sign up or for questions, emailJackie.Thomas@cor.org.
