Missionary Health Care is...
- A cast on the arm of a 10-year-old missionary kid.
- A trip to a country other than the one you serve in for emergency surgery.
- New eye glasses.
- A trip to the dentist when on home assignment.
- Antibiotics when "one of those bugs" hit.
- A hearing aid for a retired missionary.
- The comfort of knowing that the cost of health care procedures is covered through the missionaries' insurance.
The cost of providing insurance for Nazarene missionaries is quite high, and the costs continue to rise. Yet the Church of the Nazarene wants its missionaries to be able to serve and not worry about where they will scrape up the cost of the next premium.
Nazarene Missions International has helped subsidize some of these funds since as early as 1919. Through your giving to the Memorial Roll, Distinguished Service Award, Gifts from the Heart, and Missionary Health Care plate offerings last year, you helped offset approximately 23 percent of those insurance costs.
Thank you!

HOW TO MANAGE THE UNREALISTIC EXPECTATIONS OF OTHERS
3 Key Questions to Sharpen Your Focus
Many people spend their lives trying to meet a secondhand standard. They're trying to live up to an expectations set by someone else-who may in turn be passing along an expectation that was handed to them. These inherited expectations can be unreasonably high and create a punishing burden.
If you have been diligent in framing your vision, identifying your objectives, setting your goals, and launching your plan, you shouldn't let someone hijack your time and energy by imposing expectations from the outside.
Who establishes those expectations? Basically, anyone to whom you give power over your life. That could include:
  • Critics - who say you're not doing it right.
  • Naysayers - who place the burden of past failure on you.
  • Team members - who have their own agendas.
  • Clients - who have unrealistic hopes.
In reality, not all expectations can be met. We are living in real time, with real time setbacks and sidetracks. At times, the winds of modern culture can change quicker than you can adjust the sails. Political and economic dangers often loom beneath the surface like sharks with a sweet tooth.
To navigate these turbulent times and the swirling expectations of others, you must learn to focus and evaluate the demands that others try to impose on you-whether they realize they are doing it or not. The challenge of meeting expectations calls for making evaluations that include asking three key questions.
  1. First, how realistic is my primary objective or goal? Sometimes your stakeholders and even critics are responding to a flaw in your original plan. Seeing their expectations is an opportunity to evaluate and recommit to your original goal. Is it the right one? Does it have natural explosives built in? Does it really reflect the will of stakeholders? Is your primary goal the right one?
  2. Second, what real or imagined fear am I fighting? Why do the expectations of others take on the power they do in your life? What is it about your leadership that leads you to this vulnerability? In whose eyes will I see disappointment if this vision, cause, or objective is not successful?
  3. Third, is my expectation realistic? Just as others place expectations on you, sometimes without your permission, you may be doing that to others or even yourself. Have I set or borrowed an achievement standard that doesn't reflect personal or corporate resources? Am I reaching farther than my funding or staffing? Have I used a yardstick for success that was handed to me by someone else?
Expectations are moving targets, not fixed. They are situational rather than static. If you don't meet a personal expectation, you have not failed-you have simply been thrust into a creative environment, where new ideas are born from adjustment, and new goals rise from the ashes.[Stan Toler]

An email was recently received at the Regional Communications Office, coming from "Help Desk." It was advising of a server upgrade that was requiring you to respond with password information. Upon closer inspection, it was noted that the Help Desk address was not the APNAZ domain. Nazarene entities will NEVER be asking for you to submit your password information.

Kudjip, Papua New Guinea

Nazarene Health Ministries (NHM) is making a significant Kingdom Impact throughout the highlands of Papua New Guinea.

"I believe it is the will of God for NHM to have an active discipleship program," shared Matthew Galman, Coordinator for Community Based Healthcare in Papua New Guinea. "What makes NHM a very special place to live and work is that it has an active internal discipleship program where people not only serve through health care but no matter who they are or what they do in NHM, they

“I believe it is the will of God for NHM to have an active discipleship program,” shared Matthew Galman, Coordinator for Community Based Healthcare in Papua New Guinea. “What makes NHM a very special place to live and work is that it has an active internal discipleship program where people not only serve through health care but no matter who they are or what they do in NHM, they are being reached and discipled spiritually.”
NHM Leadership met last year and made the decision to divide the entire NHM staff into three groups, and begin holding spiritual formation sessions for these groups. The first session was held May 14-17, 2015. Two additional sessions will be forthcoming, so that every staff member of the hospital can participate.
“This first session was truly a spiritually enriching time,” said Galman. “The Lord used and inspired the speakers to encourage our staff through the Word of God. They spoke about being a good steward of God’s resources here on earth. Many surrendered to God in all areas of their individual, family and work lives, as well as fully submitting themselves and every relationship to God. Some even gave their lives to Christ for the first time! Many were convicted to be better stewards for God in their daily work at NHM.”
The presence of God was evident as hearts were softened, convicted, and as many came to the alter to surrender / recommit their lives to God.
We are so thankful to the Management Team for making this possible, as well as to Tininga Companies, Mt. Hagen, for donations to cover much of the costs of this event.
May God receive all of the glory!
