Reflecting God - Embrace Holy Living from The Global Church of the Nazarene of Lenexa, Kansas, United States for Friday, 22 May 2015 - "The Outpouring of the Holy Spirit" Scripture: Acts 2:1 The festival of Shavu‘ot arrived, and the believers all gathered together in one place. 2 Suddenly there came a sound from the sky like the roar of a violent wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 Then they saw what looked like tongues of fire, which separated and came to rest on each one of them. 4 They were all filled with the Ruach HaKodesh and began to talk in different languages, as the Spirit enabled them to speak.
5 Now there were staying in Yerushalayim religious Jews from every nation under heaven. 6 When they heard this sound, a crowd gathered; they were confused, because each one heard the believers speaking in his own language. 7 Totally amazed, they asked, “How is this possible? Aren’t all these people who are speaking from the Galil? 8 How is it that we hear them speaking in our native languages? 9 We are Parthians, Medes, Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Y’hudah, Cappadocia, Pontus, Asia, 10 Phrygia, Pamphylia, Egypt, the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome; 11 Jews by birth and proselytes; Jews from Crete and from Arabia. . . ! How is it that we hear them speaking in our own languages about the great things God has done?” 12 Amazed and confused, they all went on asking each other, “What can this mean?” 13 But others made fun of them and said, “They’ve just had too much wine!”

If you knew someone was heading for a disaster, would you not warn them? If cars were speeding down the highway and the bridge was out, would you not give a warning?
In the 1950’s people witnessed great revivals in America. Billy Graham preached in American cities and in 184 other countries. The Holy Spirit convicted, and many people turned from their sins. The Spirit is still available today as it was at the Day of Pentecost. God’s promises are still true, and people are still lost and need God.
It takes the power of the Holy Spirit to change the hearts of men and women. The problem is that Christians are not availing themselves of that power.
When the Holy Spirit came at Pentecost in Jerusalem, it was an unusual event. What the church today needs more than anything else is the fervor and power which the early church displayed. People today are busy. Their personal needs interrupt their spiritual lives. Oh, how we need revival! Pray for revival today.
Hymn for Today: "Holy Spirit" by KARI JOBE
There's nothing worth more that will ever come close
No thing can compare, You're our living hope
Your presence, Lord
I've tasted and seen of the sweetest of loves
Where my heart becomes free and my shame is undone
Your presence, Lord
Holy Spirit, You are welcome here
Come flood this place and fill the atmosphere
Your glory, God, is what our hearts long for
To be overcome by Your presence, Lord
I've tasted and seen, of the sweetest of loves
Where my heart becomes free, and my shame is undone
By Your presence, Lord
Let us become more aware of Your presence
Let us experience the glory of Your goodness
