eNote from Pastor Jason Gant - Friday, 22 May 2015 from The Resurrection West United Methodist Church of Olathe, Kansas, United States
Resurrection West,
School is out for the summer - or at least most schools are and others will be out in just a few hours! My wife and I will be picking up my daughters from their last day of Kindergarten and 3rd grade and head out for a few days away together. I have asked Rev. Katherine Ebling-Frazier to preach this Sunday. Her sermon title is "Ordinary Foolishness", drawn from 1 Corinthians 1:18. Pastor Chris will be leading the worship service and Pastor Katherine will share the message. I first met Katherine when I came to serve at Resurrection Leawood almost a decade ago. She was a teenager on the interviewing team who hired me as the new Youth Pastor at rezlife Leawood. She made an instant impact on my life with her passion for God and compassion for others. Katherine followed God’s call on through seminary and received her first pastoral appointment at Resurrection Leawood. She is a care pastor and oversees the prayer ministry at the Leawood campus. I’m so proud to know Katherine and witness her growth into an ordained pastor! She grew up in our church and exemplifies the mission and vision of Resurrection. Please give her a warm RezWest welcome on Sunday.
Sunday is also a “Family Worship Sunday” where we give our KiDS COR children’s Sunday school leaders a respite and invite all children 5 years and up to worship with their families. KiDS COR activity packets will be available in the entry way for any wigglers who need them. Nursery is available for 4 years and under.
Sign up before June 1st for “Disciple Me” Vacation Bible School - coming June 22-25 - and you could win this awesome basket of fun!
Invite a friend to join you for an amazing week of crafts, games, skits, music, and lessons on the Christian faith! Last year we had over 350 children at VBC and this year is going to be awesome! More details below.
You can make a difference in the life of a child here in KiDS COR Sunday School. Please consider serving, even if just one Sunday this summer, to invest in the future generation of disciples. Our children are excited about Jesus and learning what it means to be a Christian in KiDS COR Sunday School at all three services. You don’t have to know all the answers to serve, just care! We will provide everything you need. Sign up for one or more Sunday’s now on our google doc form by clicking here.
Join me in welcoming Lynnlea Nelson, as the new interim Children’s Ministries Director. Lynnlea will be contracted with us through the summer as we seek to fill the shoes that Vicki Holdman will be leaving behind. We will celebrate Vicki’s retirement with a reception after each service coming up on May 31st! Please take the time to let Vicki know just how meaningful her service to God has been here at Resurrection West.
I'm sad to share with you today that Nathan Brooks, Director of Worship Arts, here at Resurrection West will be transitioning off of our staff in the coming months. Nathan has invested in the mission and vision of our church and the fruits of his work are evident throughout the music ministry. He will continue leading the worship teams on Sundays throughout the summer and even some into the fall as we begin to search for our next Director. We have been in prayer and discernment for weeks now and, although a difficult decision, Nathan has chosen to pursue his real estate business. Please join me in thanking him for his service to the Kingdom and remember that he will continue leading in a part-time roll for many weeks ahead!
Take a look at the many different upcoming missions and ministry opportunities.

New Summer Study for Women! The Gifts of Imperfection by Brene Brown, facilitated by Diane Robertson - July 9, 16, 23 and 30, 9:30-11 am . Each day we face a barrage of images and messages from society and the media telling us who, what and how we should be. We are led to believe that if we could only look perfect and lead perfect lives, we’d no longer feel inadequate. So most of us perform, please and perfect, all the while thinking, “What if I can’t keep all of these balls in the air? Why isn’t everyone else working harder and living up to my expectations? What will people think if I fail or give up? When can I stop proving myself? InThe Gifts of Imperfection, BrenĂ© Brown, a leading expert on shame, authenticity and belonging, shares ten guideposts on the power of wholehearted living—a way of engaging with the world from a place of worthiness. Can’t come for all the dates? No problem, this study is geared for those who may need to miss a class. Child care is available for 6 weeks – 5th grade. Register by clicking here.

Finally, I am excited to share that I will be leading a trip to the Holy land in November of 2016. This will be the trip of a lifetime and I hope you can join me as we walk where Jesus walked.
