Rez Blue Springs Headed to the Holy Land in Fall of 2016!
Greetings Resurrection Blue Springs,
As you can see from the list above, things will not be slowing down for the summer! Summer is the perfect time for trying out something new and having a little fun. Next week we have a morning session of Mini-Music starting for our toddler/pre-kindergarten set. We're looking for those who like to eat and would love an opportunity to make some new acquaintances with our Dinner's For Eight. We're putting together a group to play a little outdoor volleyball this summer too, if you're looking for something a little more active. You don't have to commit for the full season, if you're available for a game or two give organizer Bill Ellwood a call. Or maybe you'd like to dive into a book study. We're offering a six week class on Adam's book "Making Sense of the Bible" that allows us to wrestle with our questions about the Bible and it's difficult passages. The men are also planning a little get away at the end of June to bring the guys of our campus together for some fun in the woods and a chance to converse around a campfire about spiritual things. Camp Timberlake is a great setting that's not far away but makes you feel far from the normal routine.
In worship this weekend, we'll be kicking off a fun new sermon series - "Take Me Out to the Ballgame: Lessons from Baseball on the Christian Life." I had planned to preach the first sermon of this series but my week changed when we lost a very close personal friend this week. The husband of a couple we have known for over thirty years. Our Disney vacation two weeks ago was with the two of them. The four of us had a wonderful time being kids together and we now consider these last days with him a precious gift. Life is more fragile than we realize. It is the promises of our faith and the relationships we have made on this earth that sustain us in times like these. There's a tie to baseball here that I'll share with you next week. This weekend we'll hear from Downtown Campus Pastor Scott Chrostek who's very excited to preach about his passion for baseball and how it ties to our faith. I want to encourage you to think of some friends, family members, and co-workers to invite to worship this Sunday with a personal invitation and sharing this fun promo video on your social media.
One last thing, Tuesday night our church will hold an all church conference in Leawood to vote on recommendations from our Staff Parish Relations Committee. One of the recommendations will be to approve candidates for ordained ministry (in the United Methodist Church local congregations must officially vote to approve and recommend candidates for ordained ministry). I'm proud to say that one of these candidates is from our Blue Springs campus. Upon approval of our church, Mark Maschgers will be entering the next step on his journey towards ordination. He and Darryl Burton are both fine candidates and already doing excellent ministry. I would ask for your prayers of support and vote next Tuesday.
