Greetings RezDowntowners,
I am so privileged to be writing you this Friday morning. My week has been filled to overflowing with God’s grace. It began on Monday night as I reflected with a group over our Transforming the Heart of the City campaign from this past winter! It was fun to think about and celebrate all the ways God moved through our community this year but especially when it came to inspiring a spirit of extravagant generosity. Monday night was also a time for me to spend in conversation with our Live and Let Think Class (one of my favorite classes, rooted in tough questions). I am so thankful to be a part of the church that wrestles with tough questions and never settles for easy answers. On Tuesday night, I spent time with our Building Committee who is taking the beginning steps toward design and development of our future church. On Wednesday night we hosted our third installment of The Misfit Mission and had great conversations and just yesterday I was privileged to announce that we officially closed on the Kansas City Star Parking Lot, the future site of our new church building! The sale has been completed!
For those of you who filled out pledge cards, as a reminder, our pledging period began on April 1, 2016 and will run through March 31, 2019, which means that we are officially into our second full month of the 36 month fulfillment period. So far, things are looking great as people begin to make payments toward their sacrificial gifts. Throughout this entire process I have been amazed by your generosity. It will be critical that we fulfill our pledges as we continue through the design and development stages of this exciting project. So, if you haven't yet started fulfilling your pledges, I want to encourage you to consider starting this month. If you haven't yet had an opportunity to fill out a pledge card, but would like to be a part of Transforming the Heart of the City as we take this historic next step, please visit build.cor.org/downtown and you can find out more information about what we're doing and how you can be involved.
Finally, this weekend is a Faithwork weekend. On Saturday morning from 9am to Noon we’ll be heading out into the community to put our Faith to work! I hope you’ll invite friends and join us as before we ever hosted a worship service we sought to be the church by serving the community. Bring a friend and join me this weekend as we seek to transform the heart of this city by doing the things that God does. I’ll see you at 9am on Saturday and then again in worship all weekend long, as Pastor Adam returns to the pulpit to share words about his experience at General Conference over the past two weeks!
