Friday, August 26, 2016 Pastor Penny Ellwood's eNote from The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Blue Springs in Blue Springs, Missouri, United States for Friday, 26 August 2016
Greetings Resurrection Blue Springs,
Bill and I spent most of this past week in New York City. We went to celebrate our 35th Anniversary, which falls on Sunday, and to visit our middle son who lives in Brooklyn. We had a great time seeing the sights and taking in several shows. We worshipped last Sunday at Hillsong NYC. It was a different kind of experience having your purse searched and entering church through metal detectors. Although, we had to admit, while it compromised the hospitality on one level, it allowed a sense of peace while we worshiped. It's always a learning experience to worship in another place and a joy to experience an immediate connection to others through our faith.
It was great to have this time to reconnect with my husband and son. One of the greatest blessings in my life is being married to Bill. He is an amazing partner in all things and has always seen past my faults and never given up on convincing me that God has more in store for me to be and do. He is my biggest cheerleader and the best example of Christ's love that I have ever experienced. I am eternally grateful for him and look forward to many more years together.
I want to say a word of apology for the mix up in our Community Blood Center Drive this past Monday. We had asked for the donor bus not knowing where we would be in the construction process but failed to make the connection that we would still need our bathrooms for that day. They were all out of commission as the work crew was replacing the flooring. Thankfully the CBC crew was needed at another site and we were able to reschedule for September 19th. We apologize for any inconvenience and hope that those who signed up can re-calendar for this day.
I want to invite you to join me on Tuesday, August 30th for a forum on the Racial Divide in Kansas City. The event is from 6:30 to 8:00 pm at St. James UMC, 5540 Wayne Ave, KC, MO. The evening will begin with a presentation on the history of Kansas City as it relates to race, then Rev. Dr. Emanuel Cleaver III and Pastor Adam will engage us in a conversation about race in the Kansas City area. We’ll look at what role we as Christians play in tearing down walls and building bridges related to race in our city and conclude with delicious Sheridan’s custard. Parking at St. James is limited so if you'd like to carpool, we'll leave from the church at 5:30 pm. I believe this is a very important conversation and I’d like to ask as many of you to join me as possible. Click here to sign up. If you are a leader at Resurrection, please plan to attend.
Finally, this Sunday we continue our sermon series on Moses. We'll be exploring the plagues, the passover and the parting of the Red Sea. We'll also be sharing information about Saint Paul School of Theology after each service and hosting a Pizza with the Pastor after the second service. So, if you've been thinking about membership or would like more information about our church, please plan to join us at 12:15 pm.
Be sure to take a close look below at all the classes we have starting soon to see if God is calling you to get further connected in study and in community. . . . . .
