The Deaf Devo from The Deaf Missions in Council Bluffs, Iowa, United States "Psalm 119 (4)" Bible Reading: Psalm 119:25-32 for Friday, 23 September 2016
Psalm 119:ד (Dalet)
25 I lie prostrate in the dust;
revive me, in keeping with your word.
26 I told you of my ways, and you answered me;
teach me your laws.
27 Make me understand the way of your precepts,
and I will meditate on your wonders.
28 I am melting away from anxiety and grief;
renew my strength, in keeping with your word.
29 Keep deceitful ways far from me,
and favor me with your Torah.
30 I choose the way of trust;
I set your rulings [before me].
31 I cling to your instruction;
Adonai, don’t let me be put to shame!
32 I will run the way of your mitzvot,
for you have broadened my understanding.
-------
I found my Bible and opened it to our verses for today. I cried as I read verse 28, "I am sad and tired. Say the word, and make me strong again."
Why was I crying? The day before I had taken our dog, Goldie, to the vet. She could not walk, so I wanted the vet to find out what was wrong. The vet called me that morning to tell me that Goldie had died during the night. My two sons and I were so sad!
Some people think that pets are not important, but Goldie was a special part of our family. She would always stay near my sons' beds when they were sick. As I did my daily housework, Goldie would follow me everywhere. When I sat down, she would lie at my feet.
Maybe you are sad today. Maybe you have lost a pet, or a friend or relative has died. Or maybe you have financial problems or have lost your job. The only true place you can find comfort and peace is through God's Word. Open your Bible and read God's words. He will give you the strength you need to go on.[BH]
"You can trust this. God is a safe place for those who go to him."[Proverbs 30:5]

PRAYER: Lord, thank You for giving us comfort and peace through the Bible. In Jesus' name. Amen.

The Deaf Devo from The Deaf Missions in Council Bluffs, Iowa, United States "Waiting" Bible Reading: Isaiah 40:29-31 for Thursday, 22 September 2016
Isaiah 40:29 He invigorates the exhausted,
he gives strength to the powerless.
30 Young men may grow tired and weary,
even the fittest may stumble and fall;
31 but those who hope in Adonai will renew their strength,
they will soar aloft as with eagles’ wings;
when they are running they won’t grow weary,
when they are walking they won’t get tired.
-------
I do not like to wait! I become upset when I have to wait for a very long time. And sometimes I get angry when I have to wait to do something.
By reading the Bible, God has taught me some lessons about waiting. The verses in our Bible Reading today have helped me be strong while I wait. Verse 31 says, "But those who trust in the Lord will become strong again - like eagles that grow new feathers. They will run and not get weak. They will walk and not get tired."
I travel a lot so I must wait in a bus station or airport. I know that God does not want me to be upset or angry as I wait. So now I take along a book or magazine to read, watch TV or look through the gift shops.
I also can be impatient when God does not answer my prayers right away. But God forgives me and teaches me more lessons about waiting and being patient.
You can depend on God to help you be patient today![PD]
"Wait for the Lord's help. Be strong and brave, and wait for the Lord's help."[Psalm 27:14]

PRAYER: Dear God, thank You for Your Word, the Bible. In Jesus' name. Amen.
