Sunday Worship. Pastor Cleaver begins his new sermon series "God is Speaking: Are You Listening?" this Sunday, September 18th. The first of four powerful sermons is "Hearing From God," II Timothy 3:16-17. This is also national Back to Church Sunday. If you have not invited anyone, it's not too late!
Wednesday Night Live. Join us tonight for dinner from 6 p.m. - 6:45 p.m. Praise and worship begins at 7 p.m. and is followed by a powerful Word from God. Childcare is provided for ages 1-4, with activities for children and youth ages 5-18.
Couples' Sunday School. Did you know there are six commitments every happily married couple makes that help them get the marriage they want?
This study for folks with busy lives consists of two 12-week sessions and meets Tuesdays at 6:15 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. The book, "Disciple Fast Track: Becoming Disciples Through Bible Study," by Richard B. Wilke is available through your favorite online retailer.
Using the book of the same name (by Thom Rainer), this short-term growth group meets for six weeks on Tuesdays at6 p.m. in the Ministry Mall. Gain understanding about your role as a part of the body of Christ and learn what it truly means to be a member. Books are available at your favorite local or online retailer.
Encouragement Ministry. Simply sign your name to a 'thinking of you' or encouragement card. Write the name of a person on the 'At Home' listing of our prayer list on the envelope and place it in the collection box in the Narthex. Cards are collected on the first Sunday of each month. New Teaching Series. "Legends of the Fall," (biblical accounts of God's interaction during a major fall) begins Wednesday, September 14th during RAGE. This series covers the fall of King Saul, Judas, Goliath and the Wall of Jericho.
Scouting Ministry. We are actively recruiting girls and boys to join our ranks.
Cub Scouts (Grades 1-5) meet every 1st and 3rd Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in Kidz Kingdom. Contact Nyrobi atncollins@stjamesumc.com.
Boy Scouts (Ages 11-18) have a new meeting date and time - each Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Kidz Kingdom. Contact Roosevelt Braxton at 816-305-2656.
Girl Scouts (Grades K-12) meet every 2nd and 4th Saturday from11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Contact Carmellya Anderson atcanderson@marc.org or 816-809-5428.
Adult Volunteers. Committed adults are always needed and encouraged to participate. Training is required and provided at no cost. Contact one of the adults listed above to get started.
New Member Orientation. If you joined St. James in 2016 and missed the last session, please attend the next session. Join us this Saturday, September 17th from 9:30 a.m. - 11 a.m. Breakfast will be provided.
GriefShare Ministry. No matter what the circumstances, grief recovery is a painful process. GriefShare Support Group sessions will be hosted every Thursday at 6:00 for 11 weeks beginning September 15, 2016. UNCF - Kansas City Initiative 5K Walk/Run Saturday, September 17, 2016 7:00 AM, Swope Park Band Stand 4600 Starlight Rd, Kansas City, MO. The event will take place at the wonderful Swope Park. There will be a host of events going on during the day of the event starting with a great warm up led by Lonnie Bush, Professional Trainer, including line dancing and two stepping featuring the De Barkers Steppers, great music and fun for all.
