Happy Thanksgiving

Dear Friend,
I want to wish everyone a very happy Thanksgiving.
This week, I had the pleasure of participating in Operation Gobble, an event where, every year, California American Water donates turkeys to charitable organizations up and down California. In turn, those organizations provide the turkeys to the needy families they serve.
This year, SDG&E chipped in, along with The Center in Hillcrest, to donate even more turkeys to local nonprofits and families. I was honored to link up California American Water and SDG&E with 11 organizations that serve people dealing with HIV or AIDS, people struggling with addiction, the LGBT community, people experiencing homelessness, veterans and enlisted service members, and grandparents who have children under their care.
In all, we provided 250 turkeys so that struggling folks in my district can enjoy a delicious Thanksgiving meal.
To me, this is what Thanksgiving is all about, and it is such a privilege to be in a position to help make this wonderful holiday a more joyous one for hundreds of local residents. I want to thank everyone who participated - their service to the community is truly inspiring.
Food security is a major issue in California, and recently, the Legislature has been working on ensuring that all Californians have access to nutritious food. I'm committed to continuing to work on this issue for the benefit of San Diegans and all Californians.
