The Deaf Devo from The Deaf Missions in Council Bluffs, Iowa, United States "Why Thank God?" Bible Reading: Exodus 15:1-18 for Thursday, 24 November 2016
Exodus 15:1 Then Moshe and the people of Isra’el sang this song to Adonai:
“I will sing to Adonai, for he is highly exalted:
the horse and its rider he threw in the sea.
2 Yah is my strength and my song,
and he has become my salvation.
This is my God: I will glorify him;
my father’s God: I will exalt him.
3 Adonai is a warrior;
Adonai is his name.
4 Pharaoh’s chariots and his army
he hurled into the sea.
His elite commanders
were drowned in the Sea of Suf.
5 The deep waters covered them;
they sank to the depths like a stone.
6 Your right hand, Adonai, is sublimely powerful;
your right hand, Adonai, shatters the foe.
7 By your great majesty you bring down your enemies;
you send out your wrath to consume them like stubble.
8 With a blast from your nostrils the waters piled up —
the waters stood up like a wall,
the depths of the sea became firm ground.
9 The enemy said, ‘I will pursue and overtake,
divide the spoil and gorge myself on them.
I will draw my sword; my hand will destroy them.’
10 You blew with your wind, the sea covered them,
they sank like lead in the mighty waters.
11 Who is like you, Adonai, among the mighty?
Who is like you, sublime in holiness,
awesome in praises, working wonders?
12 You reached out with your right hand:
the earth swallowed them.
13 In your love, you led the people you redeemed;
in your strength, you guided them to your holy abode.
14 The peoples have heard, and they tremble;
anguish takes hold of those living in P’leshet;
15 then the chiefs of Edom are dismayed;
trepidation seizes the heads of Mo’av;
all those living in Kena‘an are melted away.
16 Terror and dread fall on them;
by the might of your arm they are still as stone
until your people pass over, Adonai,
till the people you purchased pass over.
17 You will bring them in and plant them
on the mountain which is your heritage,
the place, Adonai, that you made your abode,
the sanctuary, Adonai, which your hands established.
18 Adonai will reign forever and ever.

Today's Bible Reading is a song that Moses and the Israelites sang to God. Verse 2 says, "The Lord is my strength. He saves me, and I sing songs of praise to him." This song was a way for Moses and the people to thank God for His many blessings.
There are many reasons why we should thank God. Let's look at a few reasons that we can read in the Bible. Job 36:26 tells us, "Yes, God is great." 2 Peter 3:9 says that "God is patient" with us. Romans 5:8 reminds us that "Christ died for us while we were still sinners, and by this God showed how much he loves us." Wow! God is great, He is patient and He loves us.
One of the greatest reasons why we should thank God is because He forgives us. 1 John 1:9 says, "But if we confess our sins, God will forgive us. We can trust God to do this. He always does what is right. He will make us clean from all the wrong things we have done."
Take time to celebrate and thank God today. Then tell other people what God has done for you.[GT]
"Whatever happens, always be thankful.
This is how God wants you to live in Christ Jesus."[1 Thessalonians 5:18]
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I give You all my thanks and my praise. In Jesus' name. Amen.

On Thanksgiving Day in America, many families prepare a turkey for their dinner. So around Thanksgiving time, some people make craft projects that look like turkeys.
Maybe you can make a "prayer turkey" to help you and your family remember to thank God for all He has done for you. Place your hand on a piece of paper and draw around it. Draw a turkey face on your thumb outline and color the four fingers to look like turkey feathers. Then write above each finger things that you are thankful for. Maybe you can write salvation, family, friends, food or other things that you want to thank God for. Then hang your turkey some place where you will see it every day.
Our Bible verses from Psalms today list many reasons that we can be thankful. Each verse reminds us that God loves us and is faithful. God has done so many wonderful things for us. Give thanks to Him today![GT]
"Praise the Lord because he is good.
His faithful love will last forever."[Psalm 139:1]
PRAYER: Father, thank You for all the blessings You have given to me. In Jesus' name. Amen.

The Deaf Devo from The Deaf Missions in Council Bluffs, Iowa, United States "Thanksgiving Recipes" Bible Reading: 2 Timothy 3:16-17 for Tuesday, 22 November 2016
2 Timothy 3:16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is valuable for teaching the truth, convicting of sin, correcting faults and training in right living; 17 thus anyone who belongs to God may be fully equipped for every good work.

In my kitchen, I have a wooden recipe box. I keep all my cooking recipes in this box. My recipes are divided into different categories - cakes, cookies, casseroles, soups, etc.
But way in the back of the box, I have some special recipes. These recipes were written by my mother many years ago. My husband and I were planning to go to my parents' house for Thanksgiving, but my husband had to work. I was so disappointed! But my mother wrote out all my favorite Thanksgiving recipes and sent them to me so I could prepare our own dinner. I treasure these recipes because my mother took time to write them down for me.
God has taken the time to prepare His Word, the Bible, for us. Our Bible verses for today remind us that the Bible is from God and is useful to help us become strong and growing Christians.
The Bible is God's gift to you. Treasure it and keep it close to you![JK]
"Using the Scriptures, those who serve God will be prepared and will have everything they need to do every good work."[2 Timothy 3:17]
PRAYER: God, thank You for giving me the Bible. Help me to depend on it every day. In Jesus' name. Amen.

The Deaf Devo from The Deaf Missions in Council Bluffs, Iowa, United States "Be Thankful" Bible Reading: Philippians 4:4-9 for Monday, 21 November 2016
Philippians 4:4 Rejoice in union with the Lord always! I will say it again: rejoice! 5 Let everyone see how reasonable and gentle you are. The Lord is near! 6 Don’t worry about anything; on the contrary, make your requests known to God by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving. 7 Then God’s shalom, passing all understanding, will keep your hearts and minds safe in union with the Messiah Yeshua. 8 In conclusion, brothers, focus your thoughts on what is true, noble, righteous, pure, lovable or admirable, on some virtue or on something praiseworthy. 9 Keep doing what you have learned and received from me, what you have heard and seen me doing; then the God who gives shalom will be with you.

Later this week, people in America will celebrate Thanksgiving Day. Giving thanks is something that Paul taught. Verse 6 of our Bible Reading says, "Don't worry about anything, but pray and ask God for everything you need, always giving thanks for what you have."
Many Americans who celebrate Thanksgiving Day only think about a day of vacation and all the food they will eat. But Thanksgiving Day is more than that. It is a day to thank God for all our blessings - families, homes, jobs, food and most important, Jesus!
Maybe you have to work on Thanksgiving Day. Maybe you don't have family members you can eat with. Maybe you don't have a lot of food to eat. Those things are not the most important. What is most important is to thank God for the many ways He has blessed you.
Praise God for all He has done for you![ECW]
"You must depend on Christ only, drawing life and strength from him. Just as you were taught the truth, continue to grow stronger in your understanding of it. And never stop giving thanks to God."[Colossians 2:7

The Deaf Devo from The Deaf Missions in Council Bluffs, Iowa, United States "Joy" Bible Reading: Philippians 3:7-11 for Sunday, 20 November 2016
Philippians 3:7 But the things that used to be advantages for me, I have, because of the Messiah, come to consider a disadvantage. 8 Not only that, but I consider everything a disadvantage in comparison with the supreme value of knowing the Messiah Yeshua as my Lord. It was because of him that I gave up everything and regard it all as garbage, in order to gain the Messiah 9 and be found in union with him, not having any righteousness of my own based on legalism, but having that righteousness which comes through the Messiah’s faithfulness, the righteousness from God based on trust. 10 Yes, I gave it all up in order to know him, that is, to know the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of his sufferings as I am being conformed to his death, 11 so that somehow I might arrive at being resurrected from the dead.
-------
A young boy placed $1 bills on his bed, covering the entire top of the bed. He had earned this money mowing lawns. The young boy was filled with joy.
A mother looked at her newborn child. She looked at the child's eyes and smile. The mother was overflowing with joy.
These are examples of treasures that brought great joy. But the most precious treasure that we can have is to know Jesus as our Savior. In our Bible verses, Paul said that all the great things that happened to him were "worth nothing compared with the greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord" (verse 8b). Having Jesus as our Savior is the greatest joy we can have.
We have all experienced times when we did not trust God to take care of us. But we can know that He is always with us and will never let us down. Do you want to experience great joy? Give your life to God and live for Him every day.[LHD]
"All I want is to know Christ and the power that raised him from death."[Philippians 3:10a]
PRAYER: Lord, Your love for me is so great. Thank You for the joy I have because I serve Jesus. In His name. Amen.
