The Deaf Devo from The Deaf Missions in Council Bluffs, Iowa, United States "A New StartBible Reading: Jeremiah 18:1-6 for Tuesday, December 27th, 2016
Jeremiah 18:1 This word came to Yirmeyahu from Adonai: 2 “Get up, and go down to the potter’s house; there I will tell you more.” 3 So I went down to the house of the potter; and there he was, working at the wheels. 4 Whenever a pot he made came out imperfect, the potter took the clay and made another pot with it, in whatever shape suited him.
5 Then the word of Adonai came to me: 6 “House of Isra’el, can’t I deal with you as the potter deals with his clay? — says Adonai. Look! You, house of Isra’el, are the same in my hand as the clay in the potter’s hand.

My mother was a very good seamstress. She could make clothes without using a pattern. And she could make alterations very easily. I enjoy sewing, too. But I do not like to rip out a seam or re-do my sewing. I like to start sewing projects that are new.
Our Bible Reading today talks about a potter. When a potter makes a pot and it doesn't look right, he will squish the clay together and make a new pot. Then he carefully shapes the pot the way he wants it to be.
God is the potter, and we are His clay. Sometimes we mess up and sin. Through Jesus' sacrifice on the cross, we can ask God to forgive us, and He will give us a new start. God remolds us and helps us be what He wants us to be.
Don't be discouraged today. This is a new day and God has given you a new opportunity to obey and serve Him. Ask Him to forgive you and help you do what is right.[SKQ]
"He was making a pot from clay. But there was something wrong with the pot. So the potter used that clay to make another pot. With his hands he shaped the pot the way he wanted it to be."[Jeremiah 18:4]

PRAYER: Father, thank You for forgiveness and a new start. In Jesus' name. Amen.

Psalm 119:ש (Shin)
161 Princes persecute me for no reason,
but my heart stands in awe of your words.
162 I take joy in your promise,
like someone who finds much booty.
163 I hate falsehood, I detest it;
but I love your Torah.
164 I praise you seven times a day
because of your righteous rulings.
165 Those who love your Torah have great peace;
nothing makes them stumble.
166 I hope for your deliverance, Adonai;
I obey your mitzvot.
167 My soul observes your instruction,
and I love it so much!
168 I observe your precepts and instruction,
for all my ways lie open before you.

Last winter we had more than fifty inches of snow in the area where I live. It was a wild winter!
One day I was out shoveling snow. It was cold and my joints were aching. All I wanted to do was go inside and rest. I looked up at the sky and said out loud, "Lord, do you see all this snow?" I think that God probably smiled and said, "Yes."
Maybe that's how the writer of our Bible verses for today felt. In verse 168b, he says about God, "you know everything I do." God does know everything we do. He knew about all the snow I had to shovel. And He knew that I needed encouragement and strength to finish the shoveling.
No matter what you are thinking or no matter where you are, God knows all about you. He knows your feelings and your frustrations. God also knows what you need. So you can depend on Him to help you get through the day![BH]
"Lord, you have tested me, so you know all about me. You know where I go and where I lie down.  You know everything I do."[Psalm 139:1,3]
PRAYER: Lord, You know everything I do. Thank You for being here to help me today. In Jesus' name. Amen.

The Deaf Devo from The Deaf Missions in Council Bluffs, Iowa, United States "Christmas Sacrifices (7)Bible Reading: Romans 12:1-2 for Sunday, December 25th, 2016
Romans 12:1 I exhort you, therefore, brothers, in view of God’s mercies, to offer yourselves as a sacrifice, living and set apart for God. This will please him; it is the logical “Temple worship” for you. 2 In other words, do not let yourselves be conformed to the standards of the ‘olam hazeh. Instead, keep letting yourselves be transformed by the renewing of your minds; so that you will know what God wants and will agree that what he wants is good, satisfying and able to succeed.
-------
For the past few days we have talked about Christmas sacrifices. Many people made sacrifices so that Jesus could be born. God did His part, too. It was His plan for Jesus to come to earth and be the perfect sacrifice.
Now it is our turn to make a sacrifice for God. I hope today - Christmas Day - you will pay attention to Paul's words in Romans 12:1. "So I beg you, brothers and sisters, because of the great mercy God has shown us, offer your lives as a living sacrifice to him - an offering that is only for God and pleasing to him. Considering what he has done, it is only right that you should worship him in this way."
How can we become living sacrifices for God? We can give God control of our lives. We should let God control everything we think and do.
I pray that you are willing to completely offer yourself as a living sacrifice to God. Merry Christmas![GT]
"So through Jesus we should never stop offering our sacrifice to God. That sacrifice is our praise, coming from lips that speak his name."[Hebrews 13:15]
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I offer my life as a willing sacrifice to You. In Jesus' name. Amen.
