Weekly eNote from Pastor Jason Gant for Friday, 3 February 2017 from The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection West in Olathe, Kansas, United States
Resurrection West,
We had quite a celebration last Sunday evening as we reflected on 2016 and heard powerful testimonies. It was exciting to see the Sanctuary packed out on Friday night and then on Sunday welcome 1,000 in worship! Below are the strategic objectives I laid out as we visioned forward into 2017…
*Launch a mid-week parenting class for Upward sports parents during practices
*New summer lake picnic event with swimming fun and a baptismal worship service by the lake
*Launch neighborhood “Kingdom parties” to reach out to our neighbors
*Emphasis on reading the Bible this fall with new Disciple classes designed to take a small group through the entire Bible
*Starting a new Communion class for families (similar to our baptism class) to help children, teens, and all ages understand this sacrament
*Develop a marriage retreat to strengthen and enrich marriages throughout our congregation and community
*Increase our engagement with our partner school, Ridgeview Elementary, by ramping up volunteer tutors for Ridgeview children
*Grow in average worship attendance of 1,000 per Sunday in 2017!
As you read through these, my hope is you get excited about them and they help further God’s mission for our church of building a Christian community where non-religious and nominally religious people are becoming deeply committed Christians. If any of these speak to your heart and get you excited to serve, let me know so we can connect you into the program, event, or objective! We will be revisiting these from time to time as we grow in 2017!
This Sunday Pastor Adam will continue in this series on fear and we will also be sharing in Holy Communion. Some of you may not know that we have some of the most committed volunteers preparing communion each week at our 5pm service and each month at our morning services. Colby Jones has been a faithful coordinator of our morning communion preparations for years and is taking a break. Colby is serving around West in many other ways, including coaching one of our Upward basketball teams. Jill and Mark Harsh, who have coordinated communion at 5pm for years, have agreed to step up and manage the inventory of bread and juice. Our hope is to identify new coordinators for each worship service that would come beside Mark and Jill to manage and organize communion servers each month. This is a very rewarding way to serve God here at RezWest! It was a very powerful moment when I served with my own daughter at Candlelight Christmas Eve and it was Jill who suggested I should - thanks Jill! If you are interested in serving as coordinator or a server, please reach out to me at jason.gant@cor.org. Yolanda Byers, our Guest Connections and Communications Director will work closely with this team to support and guide their service to the church.
Worship time change this Sunday! The 5pm service will be gathering at 4pm due to the Superbowl. The morning service times remain 8am, 9:30am, 11am. Bring in your food for the Super Bowl Food Drive to fill our local food pantries for those in need.
