Weekly eNote from Pastor Jason Gant for Friday, 17 February 2017 from The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection West in Olarhe, Kansas, United States

Resurrection West,
It’s wonderful to greet you on another beautiful February morning! This Sunday it will be my privilege to begin a new series called, When I Grow Up, and also welcome a guest worship leader!
Over the next three weeks we will explore together six key characteristics of spiritual mentorship and grow from insight in Scripture and testimony from our faith community. If you look throughout social media, blogs, and the like you will often see the word mentoring connected to another word - calling. What does it mean to be “called” to mentorship? Parents are certainly called to mentoring their children as they grow, but is this call for everyone? How did Jesus approach mentorship? How can I apply the principles He teaches to my life, my children’s lives, and my entire circle of friends and family? Join me on Sundays as we discover how to live into this calling of mentorship. Invite a friend and especially parents as we share practical parenting tips each week.
We will also be welcoming guest artist - Kenny Carter. Kenny Carter has been a singer, songwriter, guitarist, bassist, producer, and recording engineer for most of his adult life. He has served professionally as a worship leader in Kansas City for the last 14 years and is a husband and a father of two. He is known as the leader of the local groove rock band, Trump Dawgs and as a former member of the band, Waterdeep. He has worked as a producer and engineer for numerous recordings for local KC acts over the last 21 years. His primary passions are Jesus, his family, music, conversation, laughter, and football. We’ve posted a picture and more about Kenny on our Facebook page here.
It will be a joy to welcome Kenny to lead us in praise and song this Sunday! Lindsay and her team will join Kenny as he shares his passion for worship, and an original song with powerful lyrics!
Many of you have asked how the expansion to four services are going and I’m glad to report, very well! Here are the January averages of the new service times (excluding the one Sunday where the ice storm of all ice storms was predicted, but never came. On that day we had 498 in worship, with 178 kids and youth in Sunday School)
  • 8am average in 2017 - 150 with 28 in KiDSCOR Sunday School
  • 9:30am average in 2017 - 381 with 133 in KiDSCOR and 24 in rezlife (6th-8th) Sunday School
  • 11am average in 2017 - 294 with 80 in KiDSCOR and 17 in rezlife (6th-8th) Sunday School
  • 5pm average in 2017 - 141 with 23 in KiDSCOR Sunday School
We are avergaing 966 in worship attendance (with nursery numbers always included), and an additional 305 kids and youth in Sunday School!
This is something to celebrate for sure! If you are able to worship at the 8am or 5pm and haven’t yet tried it, I want to encourage you to do so! And I want to thank our amazing volunteer ushers and greeters who have been flexible and helpful as we’ve learned to live into this new space. Thank you!
And with our growth of programs during the week, we are in need of some more part-time nursery staff to work with our Nursery Coordinator, Malerie Latrell, to care for our youngest. Looking for a few hours a week to work, especially on weekday mornings? Contact Malerie at malarie.luttrell@cor.org to find out more.
Join me in keeping our middle school students and their volunteer leaders in your prayers this weekend. Rick Webb, our youth pastor is leading them (52 in all) on a retreat to St. Louis (originally planned to snow tube in Des Moines - but guess what? No snow). Rick did an excellent job shifting to accommodate the unusually warm weather and still offer a great weekend experience for our 6th-8th graders to grow in God, community, and fun together!
Here are some more opportunities to grow, connect, and have fun together.
