Greetings RezDowntowners and Happy St. Patrick's Day!!!
With our sermon series on Breaking Ground having ended last weekend, on our Ground Breaking Weekend, it only seems fitting to have spent most of the week dealing with one more dose of winter! However, the cold weather hasn't put a damper on what has been a great week at Resurrection Downtown. After our amazing weekend, we have been able to continue the anticipation of new life on Tuesday as we kicked off our Lenten Worship Service/Study Series, From Ash and Cinder with a great turnout! We experienced the power of God’s presence as we looked together at the idea of Biblical Lament using song, scripture prayer and sermon. I hope you will consider joining us this coming Tuesday at 6:30pm, as these worship services are powerful opportunities to draw nearer to God as we move toward Easter.
This Saturday morning, we’re hosting another Faithwork Saturday(3rd Saturday of every month). Faithwork Saturdays are great ways to get out into the community to get your hands dirty in the business of putting our faith to work in the world. Invite some friends and join us at 9am at 1522 McGee for a morning of service. You’ll find more information about it below. Finally, this weekend we’ll be kicking off our new sermon series, In the Garden. Pastor Adam will be leading us by taking a look at the different garden scenes in Scripture and this weekend we’ll be focusing squarely on the Garden of Eden and how paradise was lost in that garden.
In the meantime, I would love for you to take a look at the multiple ways we are offering for you to get connected to the life of our church. I would especially love for you to take a look our newly forming, “Go Dads Go” group as well as our upcoming trip to the Holy Land in November! It would be great to have you join me for both!
FaithWork Saturday is here! Join us this Saturday March 18, at 9am at 1522 McGee for our monthly FaithWork serving opportunities. FaithWork provides a meaningful way to introduce yourself and friends to God’s work in the city through our ministry partners. Projects may include anything from painting to serving meals, cleaning up neighborhoods or playing with kids! Our hope is that this introduction to serving will lead you to a journey of deeper faith through individual and small group commitments and relationships with our neighbors and ministry partners. For this FaithWork journey, all you need are some work clothes and a willing heart! Visit cor.org/downtown/faithwork for more information.
Lenten Study: From Ash & Cinder. Continues this Tuesday, March 21, at 6:30pm at 1522 McGee, Resurrection Downtown will begin a four-week Lenten study with Pastor Scott Chrostek and the music of Glory Revival. Through the art of worship and Scriptural teaching we will go deep into the practice of lament. During this time of year we all feel a tension. We see life springing up all around us; yet we struggle with heartache and injustice. Thankfully we are not alone. In the practice of lament, we learn how to hold the brokenness of the world before God who is with us and invites us into bringing new life out of the ash and cinder. Childcare is available with registration. Registration and information found at cor.org/downtown/getconnected
Go, Dads. Go! Feeling pulled in a hundred different directions? Seeking time with your kids and a chance to form friendships? Does this sound like a bad dating profile? It’s not! This is a chance to be a part of a group of dads who are wanting to have both time to be present with their kids and also have the opportunity to share the joys, challenges and fears of being a dad. Join Pastor Scott & Matt Bisel, on March 25th, Saturday from 9-11am, at the McGee building, for our first 4th Saturday gathering where we will plan and scheme what community looks like for dads! (Note: this will coincide with the RezMoms meeting at the same time, same place, same childcare!) To register for childcare, go to cor.org/downtown/getconnected. For questions, contact Clay Smith at CBSmith@lockton.com
Coffee & Confirmation with the Pastors – This is an extra special event as Resurrection’s first Confirmation Class will be culminating with Coffee with the Pastors! If you consider Resurrection Downtown your church home, have considered membership and/or want to know more about the pastors, the church & Methodism…then this gathering is for you. Sunday, April 2nd at 1:30pm at 1522 McGee join us for this opportunity to grow closer as a community and support our confirmands. For questions, contact Shannon.Endicott@cor.org.
Travel to the Holy Land with Pastor Scott. On November 8-17 Pastor Scott will lead a spiritual journey of a lifetime to the Holy Land. On this pilgrimage you’ll have a chance to retrace the life and walk in the footsteps of Jesus Christ. You’ll have a chance to visit the cities and sites we read about in the Bible. It is something we recommend everybody experiences if at all possible. For more information visit Connection Point this weekend to pick up an informational brochure before or after worship. To register or for more info, visit cor.org/downtown/events.
I am so thankful to buidling Christian community with you here in Kansas City. It is a privilege to be planting resurrection downtown with you with the hopes of transforming the heart of our city for generations to come! Have a great Friday!
Many blessings and God's Peace,
Scott
