The National Alliance for Caregiving Names C. Grace Whiting as Chief Operating Officer
The National Alliance for Caregiving, a non-profit dedicated to research and advocacy on behalf of family caregivers, has announced that C. Grace Whiting will join the organization as the Chief Operating Office effective May 1, 2017. Whiting returns to the Alliance after a brief engagement at the Leaders Engaged on Alzheimer's Disease coalition.
"I am delighted to have Grace on board as we begin planning for the Alliance's future," said Alliance President and CEO Gail Gibson Hunt. "Throughout her prior tenure at the Alliance, she demonstrated that she understands the challenges that caregivers face on a daily basis. She has a sound strategic sense for long-term success in non-profit work and a true commitment to our caregiving community. Moving forward, Grace will be able to think broadly and help the Alliance stay connected to policymakers and key stakeholders as well as our constituents."
In her previous work at the Alliance, Whiting supported the launch of the landmark
Caregiving in the U.S. 2015 report with AARP and contributed to several national reports on caregiving, including Caregiving in the U.S. 2015, Cancer Caregiving in the U.S. with the National Cancer Institute and Cancer Support Community, and Dementia Caregiving in the U.S. with the Alzheimer's Association. In addition, Whiting has presented on coalition building at national and international conferences, including the keynote address at a National Institutes of Health workshop, "The Spectrum of Caregiving and Palliative Care in Rare Diseases" in June 2015, jointly hosted by the National Institute of Nursing Research and the Office of Rare Diseases Research.
"The work of the Alliance touches on a central issue for us all: how can we create a society that empowers us to care for others without fear of impoverishment, declining health, or isolation? There's no more central question as America ages than caregiving," said Whiting. "The Alliance is well-positioned to identify solutions for policymakers to support those caring for older adults or people with disabilities and I am honored to be a part of this effort."
Prior to joining the Alliance, Whiting served as the Director of Strategic Initiatives & Communications and as the Special Assistant to the Executive Director at the Alliance for Home Health Quality and Innovation in Washington, D.C.
She is currently a licensed attorney with the District of Columbia Bar and a member of Women in Government Relations and the American Society on Aging. Named an "Outstanding Law Student" by the National Association of Women Lawyers, Whiting earned her law degree from the University of Memphis School of Law and her undergraduate degree with honors in Communication Studies from Louisiana State University.
