Representatives Lujan Grisham, Ros Lehtinen introduce Care Corps Demonstration program U.S. House of Representatives | July 27, 2017
"The Care Corps Demonstration Act will place volunteers in communities to work with seniors and individuals with disabilities who need extra support to live independently. In exchange, volunteers will receive health insurance and other benefits, such as tuition assistance."

Technology can lend a hand to family caregivers

"Caregivers reported the most common challenge didn't have to do with the complexities of providing care, but rather the time and energy required while trying to balance caregiving tasks with their personal lives. The most appealing technologies for these home-based caregivers were those that can serve as a platform to facilitate peer-to-peer support, provide access to medical care and resources, or manage or consolidate tasks and times."
Being born in U.S. 'stroke belt' tied to higher risk of dementia, study

"Hailing from the so-called stroke belt, a band of southern U.S. states with high stroke mortality rates, is associated with increased odds of developing dementia, even for people who relocate, a new study suggests. At age 65, the risk of developing dementia in the next 20 years was 30 percent for people born in these states, compared to 21 percent for those born elsewhere, the study found."

The future of U.S. caregiving: High demand, scarce workers

"In 2030 there will be a national shortage of 151,000 paid direct care workers and 3.8 million unpaid family caregivers. By 2040, the shortfall will be much larger: 355,000 paid workers, and the family and friends shortfall will be a shocking 11 million."

PCORI Seeking Patients and Caregivers
Participate as a Peer Reviewer
The Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) is seeking patients and caregivers to provide feedback on PCORI-funded studies. Currently, we are seeking caregivers to perform peer review on several upcoming studies. In addition, as new studies covering a broad range of topics are being funded all the time, we encourage anyone interested to apply. Reviewers are provided online training, receive a $50 honorarium and are thanked in the annual PCORI publication. Click here to learn more.
