Weekly eNote from Pastor Scott Chrostek for Friday, August 4, 2017 of The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Downtown in Kansas City, Missouri, United States

Hi RezDowntowners,
I hope this message finds you doing well! I am pretty excited today, largely due to the anticipation surrounding tomorrow's final Vacation Bible Camp celebration of the Summer. It is going to be a great day at the Wesley Heights UMC location as families, volunteers and children from RezDowntown join together with kids from the neighborhood and area churches to grow in the love of Jesus. We'll have lunch, games, activities, and ice cream. Everything begins at 9 am and will conclude with lunch at noon. I hope you'll join Freddy and me tomorrow for what is sure to be a great day in the life of our church! For more information, check out the web page at cor.org/downtown/vbc.
This week has also been exciting because of the continued progress on our building site. All week, construction teams have been pouring footings and foundation. Kelly and I had a chance to get out onto the site to see it. I have to confess, it was a bit surreal to be standing in what will one day be the entrance to the church. Today, they are pouring the footings around the future sanctuary. Be sure to check out our latest construction video update here.
This weekend, I'll conclude my series on James by focusing in on chapters three and four of this challenging little letter. It will be a great opportunity for us to actively live out our faith in deed, specifically in our words! I am thrilled to be preaching live again at all of our services downtown, so be sure to invite friends and join us this weekend in worship. Also, remember this Sunday is the deadline for returning school supplies, be sure to bring those as well.
In the meantime, you'll find a variety of ways below to get connected over the next several weeks. Be sure to take a look...
VBC #3 at Wesley Heights UMC Location Tomorrow –
Volunteers Still Needed! – Our last Vacation Bible Camp session of the summer is coming up tomorrow, August 5 at the Wesley Heights UMC location! If you haven’t had the chance yet to volunteer for one of our VBCs, or you’d like to sign up to serve again, we invite you to join us and end your summer with a joyful and fun-filled experience working with kids in our community. Register your kids to attend or sign up to volunteer by emailing Sarah.Brischle@cor.org.
Do You Have a Dusty Bible Around the House? Many of us have several bibles but tend to use one or two. There are others who would love to have a bible to use for bible studies or to simply read! If you would be willing and able to support our “Bible Drive” with a donated bible, please place it in the basket in the entryway. Thank you for helping us share God’s word in a very tangible way!
Matthew’s Ministry Family Day Out Downtown – Volunteers Needed! Join us Sunday, August 13, at 1 pm as individuals of all ages with special needs enjoy a fun-filled day of crafts, activities and fellowship while parents and caregivers take an afternoon for themselves. Parents/caregivers are welcome, but not required, to stay the first half hour or the full time to help loved ones get acclimated and comfortable with the environment. This event is open to the community; you don’t have to be a member of the church to participate. Registration deadline is Wednesday, August 9. For more information, to volunteer or to register, contact Hannah.Murray@cor.org.
My Life as an Emoji: A Women’s Evening of Authenticity – On Thursday, August 24, 6 pm at 1522 McGee, come enjoy dinner, fellowship, conversation and laughter. Our very own Kelly Sisney will speak on the various ways we, as women, measure our worth based on the “Facebook lives” of others... and ourselves! We will talk about loving the unique people we are and showing ourselves and those around us grace. Childcare (including dinner for your child) is available and will be offered by the RezDads ministry. The fee for the evening is $20; scholarships are available. Seating is limited, so please register at cor.org/downtown/events. For more information, contact Shannon.Endicott@cor.org.
Church Conference to Approve Loan Modification – Church members are invited to vote on a motion to modify our loan covenants in order to increase the borrowing limits for construction projects on Resurrection’s Leawood and Downtown campuses. Tuesday, August 22, 7 pm in the Sanctuary at Building A, Leawood Campus.
Have a great Friday! I am excited for this weekend in worship and can't wait to see where God leads us into the future.
Many blessings and God's Peace,
Scott
