Luke 19:10 - (Jesus said) "For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost."There is a lot of confusion out there concerning the Argentinian submarine, the San Juan.
For example, one nation says the sub was out on a routine patrol, while another nation says she was spying all around the Falkland Islands.
The official spokesperson for the Argentinean Navy says the ship was well-equipped. Others who have done some serious investigation say
1. the vessel had 600 fewer air filters than she should have and 95 percent of those filters they did have had passed their safe-usage expiration date;
2. the submarine had enough food for 34 people to make a seven-day trip. Unfortunately, the ship's crew consisted of 44 people;
3. the San Juan was not equipped with enough escape suits for all its crew.
If you're thinking all this sounds like a tragedy just waiting to happen, you would be absolutely right. The tragedy happened on November 15 of last year. On November 15, all communications coming from the submarine abruptly stopped.
It stopped because of a fire which began in the battery compartment of the submarine. It spread through most of the vessel. Eventually, the fire caused an implosion, and the vessel ended up sinking, with the loss of all hands aboard.
I would like you to think about that last line: "with the loss of all hands aboard."
Those words are so ominous, so fatal, so final. For those on board that ship, those words meant there is no hope, no reprieve, and no future.
Now I would like you to apply those same words to our sad, sorrow-filled sinful planet. How would it read, "This world existed with the eternal loss of all souls aboard."
After the fall into sin, that is what the Lord saw when He looked upon His once perfect planet. He saw generations of people being born, living their lives, and dying without any hope that things might change. Their sins made it certain they could not attain the perfection necessary to defeat death; their weaknesses robbed them of the ability to escape Satan's clutches.
This world existed with the eternal loss of all souls aboard.
So that our eternal history might be rewritten the Lord sent His Son to this world. True Man and true God, Jesus lived the perfect life we could not, refused the temptations which we had embraced, and carried our sins to the cross where He died. His third day resurrection from the grave was visible, tangible proof that His mission was a success.
No longer was it necessary for our lives to be lived without hope; no longer did the world's epitaph have to read, "All souls were lost."
Today, by the power of the Holy Spirit, those who once were doomed and dying are being shown the Redeemer who provides rescue. By God's grace may all souls aboard be saved.
THE PRAYER: Dear Lord, today we give thanks for sending Your Son to save the lost. May we do all we can to point others to His blood-bought forgiveness. In Jesus' Name I ask it. Amen.

John 18:1 After Yeshua had said all this, he went out with his talmidimacross the stream that flows in winter through the Vadi Kidron, to a spot where there was a grove of trees; and he and his talmidimwent into it. 2 Now Y’hudah, who was betraying him, also knew the place; because Yeshua had often met there with his talmidim. 3 So Y’hudah went there, taking with him a detachment of Roman soldiers and some Temple guards provided by the head cohanimand the P’rushim; they carried weapons, lanterns and torches. 4 Yeshua, who knew everything that was going to happen to him, went out and asked them, “Whom do you want?” 5 “Yeshua from Natzeret,” they answered. 12 So the detachment of Roman soldiers and their captain, together with the Temple Guard of the Judeans, arrested Yeshua, tied him up, 13 and took him first to ‘Anan, the father-in-law of Kayafa, who was cohen gadol that fateful year. 14 (It was Kayafa who had advised the Judeans that it would be good for one man to die on behalf of the people.) 15 Shim‘on Kefa and another talmid followed Yeshua. The second talmid was known to the cohen hagadol, and he went with Yeshua into the courtyard of the cohen hagadol; 16 but Kefa stood outside by the gate. So the other talmid, the one known to the cohen hagadol, went back out and spoke to the woman on duty at the gate, then brought Kefa inside. 17 The woman at the gate said to Kefa, “Aren’t you another of that man’s talmidim?” He said, “No, I’m not.” 18 Now the slaves and guards had lit a fire because it was cold, and they were standing around it warming themselves; Kefa joined them and stood warming himself too. Matthew 11:28-30 - (Jesus said) "Come to Me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light."We live in a land of opportunity, but no nation, not even ours, can give our hearts happiness or our souls rest.
When it comes to these things, we are on our own. We have to carry our own burdens; we are still yoked to our own sorrows and shortcomings. We still must navigate our own rivers of disappointment alone.
Unless ... that's a big word ... unless we hear the invitation which comes from the Son of God.
This is what He said: "Come to Me, all you are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." Did you listen carefully? Jesus makes a promise that no country can. Now, the Statue of Liberty may extend an invitation to the poor and huddled masses, but that's all it can do. It can't guarantee anything after people pass through the golden door.
But God's Son, Jesus Christ, goes way beyond giving an invitation. He makes a commitment: "Come to Me, and I will give you rest." And that isn't the end of His promise. In the next verses He says that if we get hitched up to Him, we will find our burdens are light. Jesus is promising that our rivers of disappointments can be reduced to manageable and fordable creeks.
Yes, I know it sounds impossible. But I'm telling you the truth. No, Jesus is telling you the truth.
Jesus is inviting everyone who is weary, which means all of us, to come to Him. Now I'm going to make a distinction here. Jesus is not talking about being "tired." You know tired, the bodily exhaustion that comes from having watched a two-year-old for an entire day and night when he has the flu. Tiredness is a bodily condition. Now, Jesus can help with tiredness, but in this passage from the Bible, He's making an invitation to those who are weary.
Weariness is a condition of the heart, the conscience, and the soul.
Weariness comes to most of us through worry. And Jesus is promising to take our worry, put it into perspective, and give us rest. And if you're wondering how this looks in reality, this may help: I know one couple who found Jesus' promise was true.
They were talking, and I mean that they were not arguing, but talking about their financial difficulties, and the wife sort of sighed, "I hope the day is going to come when we'll be rich and not have to juggle our money around this way."
Her husband, smilingly, took her hands in his and said, "Darling, we have the Lord; we have each other; we have our health; we have two beautiful children, and our house is a happy one. We are rich, maybe, someday, we'll have money!"
That's what happens when you have been given Jesus as your Savior from sin, death, and devil. It is what happens when you have learned from Him; when you have been yoked to Him, when He walks daily with you. You find you can deal with the burdens which once had been so distracting, so disastrous, and so discouraging.
THE PRAYER: Dear Lord, pains and problems are part and parcel of life in this sinful world. I give thanks for the Redeemer who has rescued my soul for eternity. May I also rejoice in His ongoing companionship which helps with the living of each day. In Jesus' Name I ask it. Amen.

(1) Adonai, you have probed me, and you know me.

you discern my inclinations from afar,
3 you scrutinize my daily activities.
You are so familiar with all my ways
4 that before I speak even a word, Adonai,
you know all about it already.
5 You have hemmed me in both behind and in front
and laid your hand on me.
6 Such wonderful knowledge is beyond me,
far too high for me to reach.
7 Where can I go to escape your Spirit?

Isaiah 43:2 - When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.It is always an exciting thing to see someone do something which can't be done.
The Wright brothers at Kitty Hawk, Lindbergh's solo flight of the Atlantic, the collapse of the four-minute mile. All those were at one time considered to be impossible, but nowadays two of the three are commonplace, and the third is hardly a rarity.
Truth is, trying to establish a new record is becoming more difficult.
To his credit, Frenchman Ben Lecomte has found such a reward. You see in 1988 when Ben Lecomte was a young man, he became the first person to swim across the Atlantic Ocean. Now, 30 years later, he wants to be the first person to swim the Pacific.
By the time you read this, Lecomte should have begun his swim from Choshi, Japan.
For the next six to eight months, he will be trying to span the 5,500-mile distance to San Francisco. Lecomte is being escorted by boats that have anti-shark and predator repellants, and he will wear a special suit to keep him safe from the waters which could get as cold as 50 degrees. Understand, he is not going to make the swim without ever getting out of the water. He will swim eight hours and then get out to rest and recoup. The next morning special GPS equipment will drop Lecomte into the water at the exact same place he exited.
And if you wonder why Lecomte is doing such a thing, his sponsors would tell you it is to raise awareness for the health of the ocean and the dangers of water pollution. Most certainly, his is a noble cause and if he completes it he ought to be praised.
Now there is no question that the Pacific Ocean is a formidable foe, but I would be remiss if I didn't point out that the dangers of the Pacific are child's play when compared to the enemies the Christ conquered during His lifetime expedition to rescue sinful humanity.
Similarly, Lecomte knows that if he fails in his quest to conquer the Pacific, the day will come when someone will succeed. Not so for our Savior. There was no second string, nobody in training, no one warming up in the bull pen. Either Jesus did the job of saving us or that job would be forever left undone.
Sadly, it should be noted that when Lecomte finishes his work, he will have a few minutes in the spotlight and then most people will live out their lives unchanged. Not so with the Lord. When Jesus announced it was finished, an announcement underscored by His resurrection, the future of humanity was changed.
For you see on that day, Christ had done what He alone could do, and He brought believers with Him.
THE PRAYER: Dear Lord, You have given to the children of men many gifts and strengths. Yet, there are those things only You can do. For our Savior and the redemption He has won, accept our praise and thanksgiving. In Jesus' Name I ask it. Amen.

Psalms 109:1(0) For the leader. A psalm of David:
(1) God, whom I praise, don’t remain silent!
2 For wicked and deceitful men
have opened their mouths against me,
spoken against me with lying tongues,
3 surrounded me with hateful words,
and attacked me without cause.
4 In return for my love they became my accusers,
even though I prayed for them.
5 They repay me evil for good
and hatred for my love.
6 [They say,] “Appoint a wicked man over him,
may an accuser stand at his right.
7 When he is tried, let him be found guilty,
may even his plea be counted a sin.
8 May his days be few,
may someone else take his position.
9 May his children be fatherless
and his wife a widow.
10 May his children be wandering beggars,
foraging for food from their ruined homes.
11 May creditors seize all he owns
and strangers make off with his earnings.
12 May no one treat him kindly,

John 16;1 “I have told you these things so that you won’t be caught by surprise. 2 They will ban you from the synagogue; in fact, the time will come when anyone who kills you will think he is serving God! 3 They will do these things because they have understood neither the Father nor me. 4 But I have told you this, so that when the time comes for it to happen, you will remember that I told you. I didn’t tell you this at first, because I was with you. 5 But now I am going to the One who sent me.
“Not one of you is asking me, ‘Where are you going?’ 6 Instead, because I have said these things to you, you are overcome with grief. 7 But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I don’t go away, the comforting Counselor will not come to you. However, if I do go, I will send him to you.
8 “When he comes, he will show that the world is wrong about sin, about righteousness and about judgment — 9 about sin, in that people don’t put their trust in me; 10 about righteousness, in that I am going to the Father and you will no longer see me; 11 about judgment, in that the ruler of this world has been judged.
12 “I still have many things to tell you, but you can’t bear them now. 13 However, when the Spirit of Truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak on his own initiative but will say only what he hears. He will also announce to you the events of the future. 14 He will glorify me, because he will receive from what is mine and announce it to you. 15 Everything the Father has is mine; this is why I said that he receives from what is mine and will announce it to you.
16 “In a little while, you will see me no more; then, a little while later, you will see me.” 17 At this, some of the talmidim said to one another, “What is this that he’s telling us, ‘In a little while, you won’t see me; then, a little while later, you will see me’? and, ‘I am going to the Father’?” 18 They went on saying, “What is this ‘little while’? We don’t understand what he’s talking about.”
19 Yeshua knew that they wanted to ask him, so he said to them, “Are you asking each other what I meant by saying, ‘In a little while, you won’t see me; and then, a little while later, you will see me’? 20 Yes, it’s true. I tell you that you will sob and mourn, and the world will rejoice; you will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy. 21 When a woman is giving birth, she is in pain; because her time has come. But when the baby is born, she forgets her suffering out of joy that a child has come into the world. 22 So you do indeed feel grief now, but I am going to see you again. Then your hearts will be full of joy, and no one will take your joy away from you.
23 “When that day comes, you won’t ask anything of me! Yes, indeed! I tell you that whatever you ask from the Father, he will give you in my name. 24 Till now you haven’t asked for anything in my name. Keep asking, and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete.
25 “I have said these things to you with the help of illustrations; however, a time is coming when I will no longer speak indirectly but will talk about the Father in plain language. 26 When that day comes, you will ask in my name. I am not telling you that I will pray to the Father on your behalf, 27 for the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God.
28 “I came from the Father and have come into the world; again, I am leaving the world and returning to the Father.”
29 The talmidim said to him, “Look, you’re talking plainly right now, you’re not speaking indirectly at all. 30 Now we know that you know everything, and that you don’t need to have people put their questions into words. This makes us believe that you came from God.”
31 Yeshua answered, “Now you do believe. 32 But a time is coming — indeed it has come already — when you will be scattered, each one looking out for himself; and you will leave me all alone. Yet I am not alone; because the Father is with me.
33 “I have said these things to you so that, united with me, you may have shalom. In the world, you have tsuris. But be brave! I have conquered the world!” (Complete Jewish Bible).
