Greetings Resurrection Downtowners,
This is the week. The time is now. Grand Opening weekend is upon us! We have had a week full of activity and preparation anticipating our move-in to our new space at 1601 Grand Blvd. So many people have been involved in getting us to this point; I am overwhelmed by the support and collective faithfulness of this congregation. It is exciting to see what God can do through a group of people who have the courage to respond to God's call to go and do likewise. In anticipation of this weekend's Grand Opening, we received some outstanding news coverage from the Kansas City Business Journal. If you didn't see the story, you can find it here.
This week we also shared several videos on our Facebook page. You can view a time-lapse video here that shows our 15-month construction project condensed down to 15 seconds. Our Grand Opening Invitation video can also be found here. Our hope is that you would use these videos as invitation pieces throughout your social network to help us live into our purpose of building Christian community where non-religious and nominally religious people are becoming deeply committed Christians!
Given all of that, I encourage you to join us this weekend in worship, and I want you to invite others to join you as well. This is history in the making as we open up the first new church in downtown Kansas City in nearly a century. I will preach live at every service and we'll conclude each service with Holy Communion. It's going to be amazing. The worship weekend will begin at 5:10 pm on Saturday evening, and continue Sunday at 9:00 am, 10:45 am and 5:00 pm. We anticipate larger crowds at our two morning services, so we'd love to have you join us Saturday or Sunday evening if you are able.
After our Grand Opening, we will host several opportunities for community and connection. You can join our 20/30s group at Chicken N Pickle (1761 Burlington St., North KCMO) on Monday, June 4 for trivia! Trivia begins at 7 pm on the rooftop. For questions, contact Emily Krause at emilynkrause@gmail.com or Shannon Sinn at ssinn@kc.rr.com.
Our Caregivers' Group will continue their book study on Tuesday, June 5 at 6:30 pm in the 1522 McGee coffee shop. This group is open to anyone, Resurrection attendee or not. If you have any questions, please contact Kris Drummond at kdrummond6@gmail.com.
It’s not too late to sign up for 2018 serve trips! We're still looking to fill the following trips: Denver--August 3-7, Puerto Rico--August 4-11 for disaster relief construction, and Malawi--October 11-23 for economic empowerment. Register at cor.org/disasterresponse or cor.org/globalimpact. Contact PastorPatrick@cor.orgwith questions or if you are interested in registering.
I am so grateful for you and I look forward to worshiping with you in our new space. This has been a journey over 5 years in the making and I cannot wait to celebrate! Tonight, I'll join 30 others in distributing over 4,000 cookies throughout First Fridays, so maybe I'll see you out and about tonight, but if not, I'll definitely see you at 1601 Grand Blvd. this weekend. See you soon!
With Grace, Peace and God's Holy Adventure,
Scott
