Special Edition: Upcoming Judicial Council for Friday, 19 October 2018 from The Judicial Council of The United Methodist Church in Nashville, Tennessee, United States

October 23-26, 2018:

Judicial Council Meeting

On October 23, 2018, the Judicial Council of The United Methodist Church will meet in Zurich.

Oral arguments will be live-streamed (on Zurich time). In the U.S., these can be viewed online or on Facebook beginning at 2:30 AM ET (11:30 PM PT) on October 23rd.

The nine individuals — clergy and laity — who sit on the United Methodist Judicial Council function as a United Methodist "Supreme Court." This body will decide, among other critical issues, on an appeal of the Rev. David Wayne Meredith from the decision of the North Central Jurisdictional Committee on Appeals as well as the constitutionality of the three plans before the delegates of the 2019 called General Conference.

The Judicial Council’s rulings on the plans are of particular importance to General Conference 2019 because they will help us to know which parts of each plan can be considered and which parts should be dismissed due to unconstitutionality.

Introductory Videos

Bishop Sandra Steiner Ball, resident bishop of the West Virginia Conference and one of the moderators for the Commission on a Way Forward, created a series of videos about the three plans and explaining the Way Forward process.

You can watch Bishop Steiner Ball's videos here.
We pray with hope and earnestness for a just and wise decision to come from the rulings of the Judicial Council. May the Holy Spirit that dwells in each of us guide this governing body to move our Church closer to full inclusion and LGBTQ affirmation. Such is the kingdom of God.
