Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:16 (NIV))

Our community had been ravaged with terrible flooding. Many houses owned by the elderly and lower income families were severely damaged. Churches in our community started “adopting a house.” Churches would cover the expense of all supplies and labor needed to gut and restore the adopted house. I reluctantly organized this project at our church with no idea how it would turn out.
Members of all ages volunteered their time and money. Many brought friends and neighbors to help. When I went to buy supplies for the project, most merchants either donated the material or supplied it at cost. Strangers in the community who saw us working often joined in to help. The project became a tremendous success. Phyllis, the owner of the house I worked on, shed tears of joy.
God will surely give us all opportunities to be Christ’s hands and feet. Sometimes those opportunities may seem daunting. But if we trust God, our light can shine brighter than we could have ever imagined.
TODAY'S PRAYER: Dear God, give us the courage to shine our light in this world so that others can see you clearly. Amen.
TODAY'S READING:Matthew 5:14-16
Matthew 5:
14 “You are light for the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Likewise, when people light a lamp, they don’t cover it with a bowl but put it on a lampstand, so that it shines for everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before people, so that they may see the good things you do and praise your Father in heaven. (Complete Jewish Bible).
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:
Where can I shine God’s light for others today?
