Daily Scripture Email - Wednesday, 19 February 2014 - Devotion ~ Trinity United Methodist Church in Gainsville, Florida "Gideon, part 2"
Gideon said to God, "If you will save Israel by my hand as you have promised - look, I will place a wool fleece on the threshing floor. If there is dew only on the fleece...I will know that you will save Israel by hand." (Judges 6: 36, 37).
Who among us has not tried "laid out a fleece," to test the waters, to try to discern what to do, to understand God's will? I imagine all of us have. And, many of us, like Gideon, needed to do it one more time, just to make sure.
The future is uncertain, isn't it? By its very nature, it's unknown, and we want to know; we want to have clarity about what we should do next. Fleeces sometimes help. But then I've always wondered: "Did I do it right?" So, I've generally resorted to prayer, and wise counsel from other persons of faith, signs (are those fleeces, too?) and an
inner witness of God's guidance.
Let me know if you've got a good "fleece" story; I'd be really interested.
Blessings, Dan
