Trinity United Methodist Church's Daily Scripture Email for Tuesday, 11 February 2014 "Rahab"

Trinity United Methodist Church's Daily Scripture Email for Tuesday, 11 February 2014 "Rahab"
Then Joshua son of Nun, secretly sent two spies to look over the land, especially Jericho.  So they went and entered the house of a prostitute named Rahab and stayed there. (Joshua 2:1).
As the story unfolds, the leaders of Jericho find out about the spies, and Rahab saves their lives by hiding and them and directing the authorities away from them.  She seems intuitively to have known that "God was with them" and so she aids them.  Later, the spies insure that her life is spared.
Often, in Scripture, we read that "God judges on the heart," rather than on outward appearances.  And often that's hard for many of us to do.  But Rahab is a great example of someone whose heart is right, while her life might not be so aligned with what's right.
And, it is worth noting that in Matthew's genealogy of Jesus, Rahab is in the list (Matt. 1:5); remarkable! wonderful!
I'm going to "look on the heart" of others today and not their outward appearances; will you join me?
For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline (2Tim. 1:7)
