Global Church of the Nazarene DAY 39 OF 40 - Better Together Through Prayer And The Word
Nehemiah 12:43
43 And they offered great sacrifices that day and rejoiced, for God had made them rejoice with great joy; the women and children also rejoiced. And the joy of Jerusalem was heard far away.
Romans 15:13
13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.
DAY 39 – THE JOY OF RESTORATION
Once everyone was in their places in the House of God, there was great rejoicing…
SCRIPTURE: Nehemiah 12:43 They offered great sacrifices that day, and rejoiced; for God had made them rejoice with great joy; and the women also and the children rejoiced: so that the joy of Jerusalem was heard even afar off.
Look at the description of the scene in the House of God… 1. They didn’t just offer sacrifices; they offered GREAT SACRIFICES. 2. They offered these GREAT SACRIFICES because God had given them great joy. 3. Even the women and children were rejoicing…the scripture does not read the men…nor does it read all the people. The scripture specifically mentions the women and children. 4. The sound of the rejoicing was so great in Jerusalem that they could be heard far away.
It was truly an exuberant celebration. It was a celebration that was joyously unrestrained. The Israelites held nothing back as they rejoiced in what God had done for them. He had brought them back home to Jerusalem, helped them rebuild the wall as well as rebuilding homes, and restored to them their homeland. I believe there was thankfulness for Nehemiah following God and coming to lead them in this massive project and to Ezra, who was the priest that had directed them. It was a celebration that could be heard far away from Jerusalem.
LIFE APPLICATION: What is our demeanor like as we make our way to the House of God? Could it be said of us that we are ready for an exuberant celebration?
