Trinity United Methodist Church Daily Scripture Email Devotion for Tuesday, 3 June 2014 "Ecclesiastes"
Vanity of vanities, all is vanity. What does one gain from all one's labor under the sun? (Ecclesiastes 1:2, 3).*
Most of us come, at one time or another, to a feeling like the writer of Ecclesiastes, don't we? Probably not today, certainly not after the awesome, amazing experience we had Sunday as we burned the mortgage and worshiped God and were enveloped in God's love.
But there are those days; those seasons we go through; hopefully not often, hopefully not long, but they come. And when they do, I'm grateful for Solomon, or, more precisely, Qoheleth (Hebrew for "the Preacher") - not sure why he's called the preacher because there's not a lot of Good News being preached in this book, but I'm grateful for him, because I know I'm not alone; I know it's all right to have these feelings, to have these doubts, to have these seasons.
I hope you're not going through a time right now that causes you to wonder if life is worth it, or if there is any true meaning, but if you are, it's okay. Like the Preacher, you'll get through it, and you'll be the stronger for it. Yes, you will. God bless, Dan
