Advent Devotion for Wednesday, 3 December 2014 from Society of St. Andrew

God is Here
Read: Psalm 73:21-24 When I was beleaguered and bitter,

    totally consumed by envy,

I was totally ignorant, a dumb ox

    in your very presence.

I’m still in your presence,

    but you’ve taken my hand.

You wisely and tenderly lead me,

    and then you bless me.

In this Advent season, as we are getting ready to celebrate Jesus’ birth once again, thinking of all that Jesus did for us is overwhelming. His birth, his life, his teaching, his healing, his friendships, his suffering and death, his resurrection—it’s almost too much to consider. What I know is that God is here, with you, with me, with each of us. Whether I am writing or shopping or fixing dinner or chairing a meeting or watching tv, God is with me. Now that’s what I call peace.
Jesus was born as a human child, and he was called Emmanuel,
meaning “God with us.” He was here in the flesh for 33 years. But that wasn’t the end. He said he would send his Spirit to be with us always, every day, everywhere, in every situation. To me, that is peace. I’m never alone, never making decisions on my own, never traveling alone. God is always here. Hallelujah! Amen.
Prayer: Living God, I thank you that you aren’t in some far, unreachable space. Thank you that you are here today and forever. Amen.[Ginny Greer, Moneta, VA]

Feed your spiritual hunger during the weeks leading up to Christmas with these daily devotions from Society of St. Andrew, offering scripture readings, meditations, and prayers focusing on the coming birth of Jesus, the “Prince of Peace.”

And as you feed your spiritual hunger, we invite you to give generously to feed the physical hunger of nearly 50 million low-income Americans through the gleaning and food distribution ministries of Society of St. Andrew.
Through your faithful giving, as you are fed, so will our hungry brothers and sisters be fed. Every dollar you share will put 50 servings of healthy, nourishing food on their plates this winter.

May God’s light shine brightly through you in this holy season.
