A WORK IN PROGRESS. I admit it. This is my office yesterday. It’s what the place looks like when I’m trying to make the Bible easy to study. I’ve got to read a lot of hard stuff to pull it off.
I’M WORKING ON GENESIS at the moment. Odd, I know, given the Christmas season. But Jesus shows up in Genesis, too.
At least that’s what one writer says:
In the beginning was the one
who is called the Word.
The Word was with God
and was truly God….
Everything that was created
received its life from him,
and his life gave light
to everyone….
The Word became
a human being
and lived here with us.
We saw his true glory (John 1:1-4, 14).
Sounds like Jesus to me.
With the Genesis project, I’m writing a book that goes into more detail than any other book I’ve written so far.
I think that’s a good thing. My best-selling books have had lots of words. They’ve also had pictures and maps. But they’ve had more words than pictures.
I have some books out there with pictures taking up most of the real-estate. They are gorgeous books. I love them. But for some reason they don’t sell quite as well as the books with more words.
I wanted you to see that when I create a book, I’m surrounded by books. The books surrounding me, supplemented by the books in my library, are written by biblical scholars.
I’m not thinking up this stuff on my own – at least not most of the time. I’m pulling from a wide range of Bible experts, most of whom don’t write the way we talk.
So what I’m doing is trying to get their ideas, or some semblance of their ideas, into your head for consideration. Thumbs up or thumbs down. Your call.
That’s what I do.
I’m not trying to sell you on one idea over another. I’m trying to report one idea and another, so you get a sense of what the folks who spend 40 hours a week studying the Bible have to say about it all.
Turns out, they usually say plenty.
