The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Downtown of Kansas City, Missouri, United States An Enote from Pastor Scott Chrostek for Friday, 19 December 2014

Friday, December 19, 2014,
Greetings RezDowntowners,
We are just one weekend away from Christmas Eve and I cannot believe it.  The time seems to be flying by as we journey together through this season of Advent.  I hope you have had a few moments here and there to slow down and experience the joy of this season.  One of the places this week where we experienced the joy of Christmas was at Wendell Phillips Joy Party.  We had a great turnout and every child there had a chance to open a gift, celebrate with crafts and snacks, and experience the good news with great joy in a very special way! It was so awesome to see and hear about!  Thank you for making this Christmas season such a special one!
This weekend we’ll be celebrating the fourth Sunday of Advent and I will be preaching a message centered upon John’s Gospel account of the Christmas story, and specifically the significance of ‘the word becoming flesh.’  Also, please know that at every worship service we will be celebrating Jesus’ Birthday in KidsCOR, so come out and bring your kids and invite some family friends so that they can be a part of our Christmas celebration this weekend, complete with Jesus’ birthday cake!
In the meantime, here are some ways to connect to the life of this church:
Matthew’s Ministry Family Day Out – Saturday, Dec. 20, 11 am – 2 pm at 1522 McGee– Individuals of all ages with special needs and their siblings are invited to a fun-filled day of Christmas activities, fellowship and laughter while parents and caregivers take an afternoon for themselves. Lunch will be provided. You do not need to be a member to participate. If they wish to, parents/caregivers are welcome to stay the first half hour or the full time to help their loved ones get acclimated and comfortable with the environment. Participants must register by Sunday, Dec. 14, so that we may plan accordingly for food and volunteers. For more information and to register, contact Hannah Murray athjhamilton87@yahoo.com or call 417-825-8137.
Birthday Party for Jesus this weekend at KiDSCOR!  This weekend in worship we will be celebrating the birth of Jesus at our annual Birthday Party for Jesus in KiDSCOR. We will play games, learn about the story of Jesus and, of course, eat birthday cake! Invite your friends and join us this weekend!
Candlelight Christmas Eve.  Please join us in worship as we celebrate Christmas Eve on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 6 pm, or Wednesday, Dec. 24, 4 pm or 6 pm. We’ll have beautiful music, a message of hope and the cherished tradition of passing the candlelight. Services are family-friendly with childcare available for children ages 4 and under. Visitrezdowntown.org/Christmas for more information.
Volunteer for Christmas Eve KiDSCOR – Join us for story time, songs, fun and crafts as we tell the story of the birth of Jesus. All curriculums will be provided. If you are able to help with the littlest of our congregation, go torezdowntown.org/kidscorCCE to register for one of the services: Dec. 23 at 6 pm, or Dec. 24 at 4 pm or 6 pm. ContactKris.Drummond@cor.org for more information.
Year-End Contributions and Deductions – To be deductible in 2014, contributions must be physically received at Resurrection or postmarked before Thursday, Jan. 1. You may mail your contribution to the church so it is postmarked on or before Wednesday, Dec. 31. Or you may place your check in the offering plate during December worship services, or deliver donations to Resurrection Downtown’s office at 1508 Grand by Wednesday, Dec. 31, (office open 9 am – noon). You may also donate online through Resurrection Access no later than 11:59 pm CDT, Tuesday, Dec. 30, or through PayPal no later than 11:59 pm CDT, Wednesday, Dec. 31.
2015 Annual Giving Commitment Card – If you have not yet had the opportunity to turn in your commitment card, please take the time to drop it in the offering plate this weekend or slip it in the mail. If you still need a card, stop by Connection Point on your way out of the Sanctuary or you may register online at resurrectiondowntown.org/giving.  Thank you for your commitment to Resurrection Downtown.
I am so fortunate to be a part of this community and I am so proud to serve Christ with you in Kansas City.  Wendy and I are extra excited about being able to raise our child in this community as well.  Thank you for all of your support and prayers this past week.  Have a great Friday and I'll look forward to seeing you this weekend as together we take another step closer to the night when Christ was born. I can't wait to see you!
Grace and Peace,
Scott
