“Rejoice in the Lord always, again I will say, Rejoice. Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”[Philippians 4:4-6 NRSV]
When I read this scripture and it says to “rejoice always”. I take this literally.
To rejoice not just on the calm days when everything is going smoothly but I am to rejoice on the weary days, the gloomy days, the dark days when my heart is heavy.
This is not always easy! As I grow in my faith I find this kind of rejoicing doesn’t depend on the circumstances I find myself in but comes from the knowledge of God’s unconditional love for me. WOW! Love and Light!
He is with me in all things, when I acknowledge this then my worries should be given over to God through my prayers. Being human I hand over my worries but sometimes I take them back.
This is the challenge for me during this advent season. I will set aside three minutes each day to make a list of my worries. Then I will imagine myself handing this list to Jesus. What joy! Maybe you would like to take up this challenge also.
PRAYER: May the Light and Love of Christ be with and among us each day. Amen
