Groundswell "his 7-year-old understands immigration reform better than Congress" for Thursday, 15 January 2015

Groundswell
This week, Congress voted to take away my ID, my job, my home, and my family.1
But they will never be able to take away my hope and my faith.
Today, that hope and faith is in little girls like Kaylee—who stood up in front of her church and explained better than any Congressperson why undocumented folks like me and her neighbor Francisco need Obama's executive action.2
Kaylee is a member of Augustana Lutheran in Portland, the congregation that kept Francisco safe in Sanctuary3 while he was fighting his deportation order to stay with his family.
But while people like Kaylee and her church are working to keep their neighbors safe, the new House of Representatives passed a bill this week that aims to defund programs that provide temporary deportation relief to children and parents of U.S. citizens that are part of President Obama's executive action—programs that will allow 5 million people to follow their dreams and stay together with their families.
President Obama said he will veto the bill if it gets to his desk—but right now we need to stand together as people of faith with our undocumented neighbors and friends to show Congress we’re for compassionate and comprehensive reform. Will you share Kaylee’s example of love to get this important conversation going?
Even as we work to protect the victories we've won for immigrant rights, we remember the millions more of our brothers and sisters who don’t even qualify for the limited programs that Congress is trying to take away. With your help, we continue to fight for them too.
Power to you and to us together,
Esther
