Friends, we have found our new Sonlight Director!  And we are thrilled!  Erin Cushing was the unanimous choice of both the search committee and Staff-Parish Relations Com.  Erin started playing music in her church in the second grade, became her church's folk/contemporary choir pianist in the 8th grade, went to UF on a marching band scholarship, has both a master's and bachelor's degree in music from UF, has taught music for 9 years and was selected "teacher of the year" by her peers.
Erin also knows Trinity, as she has worshiped here the past five years, plays in our handbell ensemble.  As she notes:  "I am well versed in the type of music Sonlight excels at performing, and I am always in awe of the talent of the group and how well they relate secular music to the message of the church."  Erin loves people; she gets students, their questions, their enthusiasm, and their energy.  Erin is a person of deep personal faith who sees music - all kinds of music- as a means of communicating and connecting.
Erin is married to Jay who is an engineer here in Gainesville, and they have a three year old son, Owen.  Erin will begin at Trinity on February 1.   And both Aaron Rousseau and Alice could not be more excited!
My deep appreciation to the search committee which was made up of 6 Sonlight members, former and current parents and sponsors; you worked hard and God has brought us a wonderful person.   And thanks to all of you, Trinity, for your prayers and support for this important ministry.  We believe great days are ahead for Sonlight - and for Trinity!
Let me just add a couple of items to this:
Prayers are urgently needed for a little child, Zane Wenger.  Zane is 15 months old and in crisis at Shands.  He has been waiting for a heart transplant and now has pneumonia in both lungs and is on a ventilator.  His parents are Ashley and Brian Wenger and he has two older sisters. Please pray for Zane as we continue to visit him at Shands.
Also, some of you remember how positive and special last year's "Mindfulness Meditation" class was, led by Dr. Randy Sherwood; that begins again this coming Tues, Jan. 20 at 6:30- 8:00, rm E225, for 8 weeks.  I recommend it highly!
Also, our beloved Pat Kilby's son, Rick, and painter/author, Margaret Tolbert team up for a special presentation on "The Myth and Magic of Florida Springs - Wednesday evening, January 28 in E232.  Prepare to be dazzled!  For more information go to their facebook page.
And finally, I am so excited about the upcoming Men's retreat - Saturday morning, January 31, 8:00 - Noon.  Basketball fans, we WILL finish on time, and have a hamburger ready for you to hurry off to the big game.  Already about 50 guys have signed up, so join in the fun!
God bless, Dan
