The United Methodist Church of the Resurection Blue Springs, Missouri, United States eNote from Pastor Penny Ellwood for Friday, 23 January 2015

January 23, 2014
Take a quick look at upcoming events/activites below:
Greetings Resurrection Blue Springs Family and Friends,
I'm watching the sun sparkling across the frost this morning and drinking a warm cup of coffee as i write.  It's been a good week.  Monday we had a great morning of service in honor of MLK.  There were 27 adults and children who came to serve.  Some worked at Hillcrest Transitional Housing's Thift Store sorting and marking donations and another group worked at the church making mats for the homeless.  This week I spent two days in Lincoln, NE with all the clergy from our Great Plains Conference at our Clergy Orders and Fellowship meeting. We spent the two days in workshops learning more about how to cultivate and improve the leadership development culture in our particular churches.  As we continue to grow, raising up new leaders is crucial to our development so I was very interested to learn more and am anxious to implement some of the strategies we talked about.  I was reminded in these sessions that a good leader sets God-sized goals and in order to do that we must be attentive to our own personal growth and connection with God.
This evening Bill and I will be attending our Annual All-Church Gathering & Dinner.  This is a great opportunity to gather together as a church and celebrate a year in mission and ministry.  You'll hear about what is happening at each of our campuses and then we'll look ahead to where God might be leading us into the future.  The dinner is sold out but I encourage you to attend the meeting at 6:00pm in the main sanctuary in Leawood.
Sunday we continue our sermon series on “Half-Truths.”  This week we’ll be discussing the phrase, “The Bible says it.  I believe it and that settles it.”  It will be a great opportunity to explore how we read and interpret Scripture.  You'll also have an opportunity to offically make Resurrection Blue Springs your church home if you have been considering this next step.  We'll be holding a Pizza with the Pastors at 12:30 pm following our 10:45 am service.  You will hear the history of Resurrection, gain an basic understanding of what is means to be a United Methodist, hear personal testimony of our pastor, and the expectations of membership. Childcare is available.  If you can register prior to the event that will help us to know how much pizza to order.  Register at rezbluesprings.org/coffee
You will see today in pastor Adam's enote an invitation to join us on a trip to England at the end of this summer.  I will be participating and I hope you will consider coming with us on the trip. This will be an amazing opportunity to learn more about the history of United Methodism as we travel to the many sites of John Wesley’s life and ministry. More information will be in Adam’s enote today, as well as a link to details and registration. I anticipate that this trip will fill quickly so move fast if you're interested.
One last thing.  I want you to encourage you to save the date, February 13, 6:30 pm for our Valentine's Dinner.  We'll be sharing more details soon, but we a great evening of dinner and entertainment planned. Kelly Sisney from our own Downtown campus will be sharing her comedy routine.  You're in for a special treat!  Invite your significant other or just a friend and plan to join us for this fun evening. Everyone is welcome. We'll have an RSVP sheet at Guest Services starting Feb 1 and information about ticket prices. Chidcare will be provided but you must RSVP to register for it.
