#1 NEW RELEASE IN BIBLE HANDBOOKS. That’s what Amazon says about the new leather-bound edition of The Complete Guide to the Bible. The paperback version is #1 in sales among Bible handbooks. I’m giving away the leather-bound edition of this book in trade for a few sentences.
IF YOU GET THE BOOK I’m giving away today, you will be in elite company with just five people on earth:
my mother
my two kids
my co-leader in Bible study
and a reader who would probably be the president of my fan club if I had a fan club
My wife doesn’t count. She’s with me.
It’s not that I’m being stingy with the book. I simply don’t have many copies of the thing.
The publisher gave me only 10. Five are gone, and I’d like to keep two or three for my office and for posterity. So I’ve got just two or three to give away.
I was going to keep them all because they’re really nice looking. And they’re expensive: retailing at $34.99.
But I saw something on Amazon this week that got me to thinking that I shouldn’t hoard the books.
The publisher just released this edition and Amazon is now rating it #1 among new releases in Bible handbooks.
That shocked me. In a good way.
It’s the second shock.
The first shock came a few weeks ago when I noticed that the paperback edition ofThe Complete Guide to the Bible was #1 in sales among Bible handbooks. Depending on the day, it has been bouncing between #1 and #3 in sales. As I type this note, it’s #2.
A little writer-work trivia. No marketing person alerted me to these numbers. I alerted marketing. I saw it first. Publishers have marketing departments, but we’re often talking one or two souls trying to promote hundreds of books. No can do. That’s why we writers lend a hand. We figure if we don’t, who’s left?
A free book for someone
I’m going to part with one of my elite 10 books today.
Here’s the deal. It’s for people who have already read one of my books.
Go to Amazon or some other site that sells books. Write a few-sentence review of one of my books. I’m talking about a new review that you post today.
Then open a comment box below and simply type your name. No need to point me to the review. I’ll trust you for it.
I’ll do a random number thing to pick one soul from the list of names in the comment boxes. That soul will get the book sent to them or to the soul of their choice still on earth, breathing, and with a postal address.
I’ll give you all day and all night. I’ll pick a name after breakfast on Saturday. I’ll give you the news on Monday. How’s that?
Then we’ll get back to more important feature articles about matters of faith, the Bible, and my dog.
Have a good weekend. You deserve it.
