From NTS President Carla Sunberg of Nazarene Tehogical Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri, United States Update for Monday, 23 February 2015
Just a little over a week ago we wrapped up M15 here in Kansas City. It was a time in which the USA/Canada church gathered to consider where we are and how we can move into the future which God has already prepared for us. The beauty of the gathering was that it included such a wide spectrum of individuals representing the varied constituents of the Church of the Nazarene.
NTS was pleased to be present in many ways, including our new Center for Pastoral Leadership co-sponsoring the pre-conference on worship. In the planning stages of this event, the organizers had hoped that at least 50 would be in attendance; they were overwhelmed when more than 300 registered!
Numerous NTS faculty and alums presented workshops throughout the M15 event on a variety of topics which were well received. We prepared a journal, “Theology To Go", to supplement the workshops we sponsored, which includes a number of papers and blog entries by those who led some of our workshop sessions.
We are grateful for all the NTS alums and supporters who came out for the alumni gathering where we were pleased to share all that God is doing in and through NTS these days. This included an update on our strategic planning process and the work we are doing as we move into the future. The NTS booth was well-visited during our days at M15 with many people chatting about opportunities for further study, whether our new certificate in Church Planting or Urban Ministry, our 365M program (365 days in Mission), or our traditional degree programs.
As a pastor, missionary and educator it is always a joy for me to see the people in whom we invest flourish. My greatest joy was to watch some of our more recent NTS grads lead sessions where there was valuable discussion for the future. They had a seat at the table and for those of us who have gone before, we must make room and let them have their place! We should never talk “about” them, but always with them. They love the church and more importantly, the Lord!
I am grateful for all we experienced at M15 — and I’m humbled to be a part of the NTS family!
You can download a PDF of the "Theology To Go" journal I referenced above, as well as download other presentations that were shared in our workshops at M15 on our website by clicking here. As we receive more presentations and get links to others, we will update this page. Please check back regularly!
Grace and peace,
Carla Sunberg
